I don't need to fight, to prove I'm right.

turkey paninini, salad and choco milk
from: Cafe Perugia (across the street in Life Sciences building)
price: $8.28 all said and done
rating: &&&/&&&&&
listening to: The Who. all day. yeah! whoooo!
comments: dchong showed up today for lunch. so jeff and I avoided the rain and went across the street for lunch with him. the lunch was a little disappointing. the food was decent, but it cost so much. and us three guys ate so fast, that we were back at our desks in under 1/2 hour, I think. I think we could have walked to the village, got our food, walked back and it would have taken longer. crazy. and in other news, jason got his new digiSLR today. click the pic to see it.

and dave had:

seafood penne and salad
from: Cafe Perugia
price: I think it was $6.99+the tax
comments: I think Dave went home after lunch to take a nap. so he's got no review for you people. maybe he'll add his $0.25 in the comments section. meanwhile, click the pic to see something from jason's new camera. Keep in mind, blogger reduced it from it's 8megapixel size. crazy, huh? each pic is about 5Megs. huge. my new SLR is only 2.7Megapixels. I think I have a little megapixel envy.

3 items: the fish, ginger beef, and green beans
from: Yi Kous Xiang dielicious foods
price: $4.82
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: meat loaf. I know. I know.uh... some good music
comments: good food. it was fresh. that's why I picked those items. the fish wasn't fresh, but I just had to. and now click the link to see how well my band is doing in the daily plays of a contest that is long ago finished. if you do listen to our song, make sure you let it play to the end so it goes up yet another number. yay.

and cindy had:

leftover egg white seafood fried rice
from: Miki Restaurant (in kerrisdale)
price: $5.80 (for half)
listening to: jacky's mouse clicks
comments: cindy is one of our new co-ops. she is also a bass player in a band. thus I have linked to her band's page. about the food, she said, "leftover from cheap crappy dinner for CNY (新年)." when I asked why it was crappy, she said, "Taste was not bad, just that it was CNY. We usually have shark fin / abalone / lobster etc…"
I'm not sure is the snowboarder cost extra...

Greg begs for reviews cause you know he’s my bitch.
Viv and the Kehoe will complain that I’m guest
They jealous of my food and my pectoral chest
The California roll was ok but not great
Fresh is always better but I couldn’t wait

ihappy iMac day, you old savings and loan!!!

mcchicken meal with shake
from: mcDonalds
price: $6.64
rating: &&&/&&&&&
comments: I had mcdonalds. who cares? more importantly, I got my new computer today!!! my 20" imac. I now have apple-dual-screen at my house. greedy? yes. better than the nintendo dual screen anyway. now, if I could just get my wireless router behaving, I might have something cool here. it sure was a big to-do running around campus trying to figure out where fedex took my computer. damn them. don't they even look at a) the address on the box or b) the name next to the address? iyiyiyi. oh well. I got it now.

and r. had:

he had salmon in a blue bag. but that was for dinner. but dinner in halifax is close in time to lunch at the village. so I let it slide. we had him in the corner of our cube for the afternoon making his dinner. iChat is pretty neato! and in the link, you will find the newest, most popular blog by anyone at our company. check out that hit counter at the bottom. crazy. and that's just with 1 post.

and ryan had:

chickpea curry and chicken curry
from: Curry Point
price: $6
rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
comments: ryan said his lunch was spicy. he said this several times over, so it was probably spicy. personally, I can't understand why anyone would not order butter chicken. now click the pic to see how nice the weather was this morning. it didn't look like that for long. rain rain rain. ok, I got play with my new camera now. keep on truckin.

from now on... less taxes! from now on... more blogging! from now on... shut the hell up stephen harper!

3 item: DF fish, honey pork and green beans
from: My Home Cuisine
price: $4.80
rating: &&&/&&&&&
listening to: steppenwolf
comments: ok, I finally tried the hotlamp food form my home cuisine. at first I realized it tastes very much like Yi Kou Xiang's food. but after a while, I grew tired of it. it's good taste was not a lasting effect. I dunno what happened. it just wasn't as good after a while. and why doesn't starbucks make my latte fancy like the ones in the linked page. so fancy.

and justin had:

Chinese combo
from: Combo Express
price: Just under $5
rating: &&&/&&&&&&
comments: when I asked him where it was so I could photograph it, he pointed to his belly. so, that's what you get to see. here's what justin had to say about his lunch, "New Styrofoam containers don’t hold as much food … L" the "L" was a happy face. now click on the pic to see the race for arrival bewteen my new computer and my new camera.

how can you sleep with the light on in your head?

saltyfishnchickenfriedricespicytogo
from: Hong Kong Chinese Food
price: $7.44
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: Martin Tielli
comments: I had a little hankering for the old saltyfish and chicken fried up in my rice. it hit the spot. yum. I asked them to write my name on each grain of rice, but I think they got tired of that. and in the linked photo, you can see the great amount of harm that the damn fool burglars wreaked upon me. by smashing the window last week, they left little bits of glass all over our desks. this glass was cleaned up really well. but it's impossible to get it all. so I decided to clean the last few tiny pieces (which were embedded in my desk) with my arms. fun!

and the best lunchbag in the office was:

this person had the best lunchbag I've ever seen at work. he asked to remain nameless. so I won't mention his name. and if it's in the filename for the image, well, I just can't help that. and in the linked pic, I was informed that UBC's favourite moving company was up to its old tricks again. craig (who happens to sit in the same area as the nameless one) pointed out how the moving truck knocked the chemical storage hut askew. the inset of the pic was the culprit.
ok. go vote now. and don't vote for harper, martin or layton. pick someone new and exciting to support. work less party! yeah!

don't wake me, I plan on sleeping in.

baconcheeseburgerwithfriesandgarlicmayo
from: the PIT
price: I forget. we had beer.
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: postal service
comments: friday. beer day. yay. who cares what the burger is like. there's beer. very exciting day at work today. the window by my desk was smashed. and a pisspoor old laptop was stolen. to find out more click the link and read it in greg's blog. the worst part of it all was that I had to sit elsewhere all day. I don't handle change that well.

and meg had:

meg's not going to review her lunch cuz it's late, it's friday and I wouldn't know how to reach her, and who really cares. I'm sure it was a lot like my lunch, but with less beer. now click the link to see the beeyooteeful view I woke up to this morn. looks like anyone hitting the slopes this weekend will be in for a treat. and no, I'm not making racist slurs, I'm talking about ski-hills.

I'm coming from the land of the new rising sun

stirfry with pork and shrimps
from: My Home Cuisine
price: $4.60 (not sure how that worked out)
rating: &&&&.5/&&&&&
listening to: jimi hendrix
comments: I finally returned to My Home Cuisine. haven't been there in a long time. the food out under the hotlamps never looks very fresh. so I got a stirfry. which was really good. enjoyed it thoroughly. and check out the guy in the linked pic. I bet he's good at tetris. such incredible stacking.

and greg had:

3 items
from: Yi Kou Xiang
price: $4.82
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
comments: greg says, "Fool, you know the price! First of all, this is a pity entree, foolio greg just took this photo incase nothing came up.. and I guess nothing came up. He's even guided my review "can you write me review? you can talk about how you felt dissed in the portions." yes, there was less food in here than usual, but what they lack in quantity they make up for with MSG, the flavour was great.. why am I so thirsty?" now click the pic to see his cubemate's amazing multitasking skillz.

but you don't really care for music, do you?

3 items: ginger beef, sweetnsour pork, the fish
from: Yi Kou Xiang Delicious Foods
price: $4.82
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: Leonard Cohen
comments: going into the village now is difficult. I've had most of the food. and I'm getting a little tired of it. what should I do? it's still good, though. but the anticipation part is gone. oh well. in the linked pic, you will see how many times I'm sticking it to the man. five. that's right, 5 times. these credit card companies that send me junk mail are getting their just desserts. This is probably the greatest thing the internet ever taught me. and I have Maddox to thank for that.

and jason had:

What: Vegetable Teriyaki Box
From: Osaka Sushi
Prix: 6 or 7 dollaz
Rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
Comments: jason says, "I felt like Japanese today. The Vegetable Teriyaki Box is nothing special, but it's tasty enough that I've gotten it a number of times. The tempura and the actual veggie teriyaki are the best parts, but on the roll side of things, it's all avocado, and I can only eat so much avocado roll (2-3 pieces)."

don't stop, git it, git it. ha ha ha ha ha

if you can read this alt tag, you are too close
smoked meat sandwich
from: The Delly (at the SUB)
price: $4.75
rating: &&&&.8/&&&&&
listening to: gorillaz
comments: sandwiches from the Delly rule. now I'd like to talk about a new friend I made this morning... Esmerelda. I met her on the floor of my apartment this morning. she wasn't moving much. just hanging out. but not dead. I don't think Hemi had gotten to her yet. good thing, too, cuz she was probably poisoned and it woulda been bad for him to eat her. oh well. she didn't run away at all, so I scooped her into a jar. then brought her with me in the car on the way to work. erin said I wasn't allowed to bring her into the office, so I set her free in the endowment lands. not far from Tony Parson's house. I hope she gets better. she was awful cute. click my lunch to see her sniffing around her new environment. click greg's lunch to see her in the jar. so cute, no???

and greg had:
yosemite sam saying back off
samosas (Sammy Sosas)
from: Sweet Cheribum (commercial drive)
price:$6 (for 2)
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
comments: greg says, "these mofo's almost got a cool 5 for being both delicious and kinda healthyish. Spinach feta and tofu rice were the 2 samosa types, the spinach one gets a 5 cause its excellent, thats an explosion of goodness in your mouth. The tofu rice one, tastes good also but I think they add ocra or some veggie in there that makes it a little slimy in texture, 2 points off."

it's an elaborate tale. so convincingly real...

yoghurt and spinach/lamb curries
from: Curry Point
price: $6
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: Steve Earle
comments: today I ate curry. I disagree with Ali's statement about spinach/lamb curry being the new butter chicken. yes it's good. but butter chicken will never be removed from the throne. all hail prince butter chicken!! in other news... eric was very nice today. he brought me a brand new turtle calendar!!! he also got himself one. click our lunches to see our calendars.

and eric:

2 items: tofu n sweetn sour pork
from: the moon (at the PIT)
price: $5.75
rating: &&&/&&&&&
comments: eric says, "lunch was pretty average today. it's not bad. it's not sub-average. not to the point where you get stomach-ache/gut-rot. that would be bad. this wasn't that bad." he thought that $5.75 was a bit much to be paying for 2 items. I concur.

erin's bonus lunch:

erin had some panini from some place on 10th. this is the photo we took of it. erin was dressed like Ms Pacman for some reason. the link is greg's blog. go comment there. a lot.

you should have never trusted hollywood!

3 items: ginger beef, szechuan pork n tofu
from: Yi Kou Xiang Delicious Foods
price: $4.82
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: system of a down
comments: I'm starting to think that this is my favourite place in the village. and all you suckah mc's who diss it are wack, yo. there's nothing else to say about this food. but the link... oh there's lots to say about the link. As a Robotanist, I like to try to keep up to date in all robot-related robot stuff. so look at the robot, and if you got time, click the movie links at the very bottom of the page. funny robot. oh, and that camera in the pic was given to me free. yay! but, shortly after trying to make it work I realized 3 bad things about it... 1)the battery is dead. 2)there's no direct power cord for the cam. and 3)it's PAL. oh well. maybe Darius can supe it up for me? darius?

and jeff had:

麻婆豆腐 (Ma Po Dou Fu)
from: HK Chinese
price: $5ish
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
comments: here's exactly what Jeff says about it, "麻婆豆腐 (Ma Po Dou Fu) that's the dish name in Traditional Chinese. In tradition, the tofu was cooked with pork instead of beef, but change is sometimes good. Umm, smells good, open slowly, !, where is my pork? oh yes, they are so small that I rarely taste them. Tofu, I once thought it is a side dish, but it's solid and filling enough to be a main dish. Once taste a fresh uncook Tofu in a Japanese restaurant, with green onion and soy souce, it's gooooooooooooooood. But the Hong Kong place puts too rich souce so it covers the taste of tofu. Conclusion: a lot of rice with rich souce on top, tofu and beef? they are just for decoration."
oh, and you'd better not click the pic. 'specially not at work!!

I wanna live in Los Angeles, not the one in south california, they got one in south patagonia

3 items: the fish, ginger beef and lemon chicken
from: Yi Kou Xiang Delicious Foods (or Northern Foods)
price: $4.82
rating; &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: Frank Black
comments: I hadn't had the fish in a while it's still saltily delicious. and I tried the ginger beef. not bad. not amazing, but not bad. maybe I should have picked some vegetable for my lunch, but these 3 items lookde very good. oh well.

and erin had:

cowboy bibimbap
from: A-1 Vietnamese and Spicy Korean food
price: $6
rating: &&&/&&&&&
comments: erin says, "usually, it's not spicy enough. but today it was spicy. this is probably because they are skimping on their portions. there were fewer vegetables than usual. I don't care if there's less meat... but less vegetables?? I'm ashamed to say it's Korean food. Korean food is always about big portions."

vietnamese subs
from: empress bakery (kingsway & fraser)
price: $2.25 each
rating: &&&&.5/&&&&&
listening to: modest mouse
comments: oh yeah. vietnamese subs. I put them in my car and drove back to work. ray thinks this is a bad thing. it would do bad things. it did not. maybe i'm supposed to leave them there for a couple hours? oh well. click the pic to see a pic I snapped on the way back with the subs in the car. and in other news, apple announced new computers today... and I was so close to clicking 'check out'.

professional photographer... professional!

laksa chickeny goodness
from: Cafe D'Lite
price: $7.50+tax
rating: &&&&.8/&&&&&
listening to: kool keith... the personal album
comments: mmmm... the laksa chicken noodle soup is fantastical! the only reason I didn't give it perfect marks is because we took a bit too long getting it, and it wasn't as hot as it could be. dang yummy, though. and in the linked pic, you can see my niece. that's right, she's a bit of a celebrity with her being the "STar Patient 2005". oooh yeah!

and Ali had:

Lamb Spinach with Squash and Lentils
from: Curry Point
price: "$5.50 if you bring your own container, and you somehow all ready have a drink. Otherwise shell out 6.00. Save some money, save the environment, use your benefits. You earned them!" - ali.
rating: &&&&&/&&&&&
comments: here's Ali's $.02:
"The long reign of the champion is over. The long touted king of Curry Point, Butter Chicken, has been pwned by the incumbent. If you always buy butter chicken out of habit, you are only settling for second best. Overall, it just tastes better, but also, it is better for you. Spinach sauce instead of butter sauce? Who knew? And who doesn't prefer the taste of baby sheep to factory chicken? I do!"
(the linked pic has nothing to do with Ali. it just Minion and Hemi chillin' in the bathroom. Minion was visiting for a week. she's gone back home to edmonton now)

I'd like to take this moment to share the photos of the year I have seen. It seems that a lot of places got their "best photos of '05" up for your viewing pleasure. Like rueters, time, or world press photo contest, I especially liked this series. and of course, there's national geographic's best wildlife or mountains. and I save my favourite series for the last one, they were the msnbc pics. The readers' ones I liked best. enjoy.

duffer burger with fries
from: thunder bar
price: $7.50
rating: &&&/&&&&&
listening to: gorrilaz
comments: friday. thunder thunder thunder bar. I was low on moneys, so I just got the duffer burger. there's nothing special about it. it's just a burger. no bacon, no cheese. and it still costs $7.50. too much, man. I expect bacon and cheese for a price like that. the PIT is much cheaper, I think. but the thunderbar is always nice and empty.

and jenna and jeff had:

duffer burgers
all same as mine.
rating: &&&/&&&&&
comments: jeff and jenna drew faces with ketchup. that's all I know. in the linked pic, you can see the fry-bits. I've never known anyone to take the frybits off their fries. but here you have it.

lemongrass chicken soup
from: A-1 Vietnamese and Korean
price: $5
rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
listening to: hefner
comments: yup. more soup. still got a bit of my cold, and I still desire soup. but I changed it up a bit today. this chicken is pretty good. although, I didn't get enough of it. and the soup is simply their pho minus the beef. pretty plain tasting. but very good for my needs today. and the linked pic is of Jeff's new camera. like that cross-processing effect I did with nothing but iPhoto? I do.

and jenna had:

3 items: grilled fish, egg&tomato, tofu&vegetable.
from: Combo Express
price: $4.82
rating: &&&/&&&&&
comments: here's what jenna said about her combo express meal, "it'a a bit salty. but all campus chinese food is salty to me." the caterpillar story didn't seem to phase her at all. not like jeff. and the linked pic was taken with jeff's new camera. and in that photo you can see the camera that is responsible for 99% of the pics on LATV. and if you want to see more pics frmo this camera, have a look at jeff's gallery. yes... a new place to comments!

soggy porkchop (in noodle soup)
from: Hong Kong Chinese
price: $4.50+tax
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: Modest Mouse
comments: still feeling my cold a bit. soup time. and what better soup is there than one with noodles and porkchops in it. mm mm good. in other news, our good friend Wayne got married on the new years. nice. for an entertaining story about this, check out Viv's blog. classic Viv.

and Jeff had:

3 items - pork, squid, mix veg.
from: Combo Express
price: 4-something
rating: &&&/&&&&&
comments: jeff did not know about greg finding a caterpillar in his combo express lunch. so we told him as he was eating his disappointing lunch. here's what he had to say, "what? a caterpillar was in GregChan's lunch before?!?! I don't want to eat anymore. Too much rice, too greasy, oh well, it's chinese food from the village, what can I expect. So I heard, only one person can take the ComboExpress and it's You-Know-Who: RICE" that last word is a bit of a word-jumble. can you tell who he's referring to?? oh yeah... the linked pics are some I took last night near VGH. looks like they're saving a cool old building. glad they didn't destroy it, I always liked that building.

butter chicken and yoghurt curries
from: Curry Point
price: six bux.
rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
listening to: bloc party
comments: first curry of the new year. and since I bin sick for the last few days, I really couldn't eat it all. maybe I shoulda stuck with some kinda soup. tomorrow, probly. the turtle was my mexican christmas present from eric! and in the linked pic, you can see some crazy man walking about the village. crazy.

and alex had:

two curries of sorts
from: Curry Point
price: $6
rating: &&&.79/&&&&&
comments: Alex said, "By far, this is the best curry I've had all year." I often wonder how many times alex's parent's heard teachers say, "alex doesn't play well with the other children." when we was growing up. I made sure to get some of his food-eating-pony-boy-hair-style in this photo. I guess it would suck to get curry in that hair. and the linked pic shows the massif raven we saw chewing on some squirrel carcass on the University Boulevard boulevard. I don't see too many ravens out here. sorry about the blurry pic.
