let's get this party started right! right on!

pizza
it's thursday
listening to: exactly what RAdio Raheem listens to.
comments: we had pizza today. click the pic to see "the littlest cruise ship." based on the book le petit bateau by guy de maupassant. or not. that barge next to it is dwarved by every other cruise ship that docks there. but not the 120-passenger Spirit of Oceanus. and it's a bit weird that anyone would want "anus" in the name of their boat, huh?

and the cake was:

made of icecream
comments: click this pic to see the mess that the police left behind. I'm offended. not just because they left such a mess in my favourite stretch of my walk to work. but because in all this rubbish, trash, garbage, there was not a single bit of Canadian product packaging. you come to canada and you drink budweiser?! come on, man! sure, corona is good, but budweiser!? when you could be drinking shaftesbury, okanagan, sleeman's or granville island?!? ridonkulous!

and a very sad final chapter of the baby crows. as we know they were not babies anymore. it was time for them to fly. one of them flew, no problem. unfortunately another one was found this morning. if you don't like sad pics. do not click here. that was the fate of one of them :( I think the 3rd one flew. s/he got to the lowest possible roosting place in the tree today, but when I left work, there was no sign of him/her. I think that's good. s/he's probably hanging with tom petty now.

they headed down to old el paso clappaclappaclap

el super mondo buritto
from: taco del mar
price: almost $8
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: steve miller
comments: delicious buritto. click the pic to see possibly the last picture of our baby crows. just for you, reagan. you see, today they left the nest. but only one of them actually learned to fly. the other 2 tried, but just tumbled and flapped their way to lower branches in the tree. it was all very exciting. maybe they'll be gone by the time I get in today. but maybe not. the one crow that did fly seemed to be hanging around on the neighbouring buildings all day. waiting for its siblings to join him/her.

and cliff had:

beef terriyaki. $5.
comments: cliff seemed to enjoy his beef terriyaki. I have yet to get lunch from "little japan" but it looks like a fair deal for $5. now click cliff's lunch to see a strange site I saw on the say home. some dude laying in the middle of the street. and a cab driver and other dudes standing around, waiting for him to get up? he did get up in the end. maybe he was faking being hit by the cab? no idea. but i'd also like to give props to Viv, for that old camera she gave me allowed me to take all of today's photos.

from: the amazing wok
price: $6ish
rating: &&&/&&&&&
listening to; pearl jam doing Yellow Ledbetter <--click that to lol, yo.
comments: lunch in the sun again. and again I'm disappointed by the amazing wok. I should downgrade their sign the the Average Wok. cuz it's never much above average. click the pic to see a close up of a cruise ship. and tell me, do those look just like those little lego rockets? yes, they do. so don't tell me.

and nicky had:

salads
comments: click this one to see the puppy that was having her lunch break near us. puppy!

Won't you take a ride on the flyin' spoon?

thai food
it's thursday
listening to: CCR
comments: good thai food today. I liked it. now click the pic to see a strange sight I saw on knight street. reagan's neighbourhood. unless he moved. did ya move, reagan? or is this still your neighbourhood? if so, that restaurant on the left of the boomboxes is very good. you should go there.

and the cake was:

made of ice cream.
yum. the hands in the pic were actually demonstrating spirit fingers, but I think the shutter speed was a bit too quick. and click to see some flowers. don't like the flowers? perhaps you'd prefer crows? oh, one other thing to add, check out this awesome webcam that a friend has just added to the vancouver aquarium's webpage. crazy good frame rate, yo!

no matter where you are, I can still hear you when you drown

fried noodle n beef
from: new town
price: $40. (I was the only one of 4 with cash. I'm stating this here so I remember in the future. :)
rating: &&.8/&&&&&
listening to: smashing pumpkins
comments: today's trip to new town in china town was disappointing. greasy meals, overly congealy hot and sour soup, and no chinese donut rice rolls available. bah. this makes me think that I just just stick to the steamed buns from there. now click the pic to see Stephane reacting to coke's new flavours!

and ed had:

veg stuff
comments: click this lunch to see the new place Zoltan is thinking of moving into.

one wing wasn't even enough

lamb pita
from: nuba
price: $7ish
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: modest mouse
comments: good food at nuba. it takes a while, though. especially when they're busy. click the pic to see the woodward's building advertisement that makes me angry. why angry? cuz it's totally false advertising. if you look at the pic on the left, it says "yesterday". ok, I can take that. it's not exactly yesterday, but I get the idea. then you look at the image on the right. it says "today". well, that is clearly a lie. for today, and months and months to come, it's nothing but a hole in the ground and eventually, a foundation, frame, etc. the picture on the right is obviously tomorrow. it's obvious. why lie? so the day they take that sign down it's accurate??? for 1 day?!? aiyuh!

and kylee had:

falafel
comments: kylee don't like falafels. she didn't mind this one. click to see some grafitti/a note that I saw under the bridge where the army of 1 or 2 was trying to create some kinda "tent city." until recently, I was unaware that the biggest insult you could give someone on the street is to call them a "goof." I'm not entirely sure why, but there's no worse insult on the street. it's nice how the author censored himself, too.

Photographs of fancy tricks to get your kicks at sixty-six

aztec soup and a couple tchicken tacos
from: Mexico Rico
price: $11ish
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: elvis costello
comments: mexico rico. good as always. we doubled up on the mango-water this time. yum. if you click the pic you will see a curious photo of rocks. these rocks spent a week in my shoes. you see, on monday, i got a rock in my shoe. everyone hates that, right? usually stop and take it out at the first chance. well, I thought to myself, I'm gonna see if I can withstand this rock for a week. and during that week, the rock got friends. but I did it. mon - fri. all rocks. it wasn't that annoying once I got used to it. keep in mind, for me mon-fri is usually about 50k in those shoes. you should try it. beat my high score.

and the others had:

buncha stuff
comments: click this pic to see how the baby crows are doing. after this long weekend, I wonder if they will still be in the nest.

helicopter + military ship = hockey trophy. zuh?

sandwiches
it's thursday
comments: today there was some excitement at the office. the power was blown in the morning, so things were oddly running at half power. but thats not the exciting part. the exciting part was the HMCS Vancouver pulling into the harbour, then a coast guard helicopter approached it. some guy went form the helicopter to the ship, then a box went from the ship to the copter, then the guy returned to the copter, then left. very exciting. and yes, I got pics. click this lunch to see the little man.

and the cake was:

pie.
comments: the funny thing is that I just watched "the guardian" the night before. and then I got to see the real thing. crazy. I put a gwilli-stylee video of it on youtube but I'm gonna try to get a better quality vid there later. this one is crap. so click the pie to see the memorial cup. and if you think I'm making all this up, you can read this article.

sushi special with miso
from: spinroll
price: $7.37
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: Hendrix
comments: you can click this pic, to see an art car, but wouldn't you rather skip to the 3rd lunch for the tom petty update?

and stephane had:

a shwarma or something
comments: click stephane's lunch to see the crows out front.

and the cake was:

tom petty's freedom celebration cake
comments: it was freedom day for Tom Petty. that's right. when I got into work, Tom Petty was gone. and honestly, the evidence points towards him leaving on his own accord. there was no sign of struggle, and to get out of the box, he basically had to learn to fly. so, we wish him well in his future endeavors and hope he comes back to visit. maybe he already did? click the cake to see what I spotted on the top of the building. and now I leave you with one last photo of Tom Petty

price: about $7
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
comments: damn good food. and many items to try. this nuba place is right next door to my old jam space on hastings. now click the pic to see an impromptu photoshoot I did on the way home when I asked if I could take pictures of some guy's car. the guy was the president of intermeccanica.

and ed had:

fell off all
comments: ed was crazy about his felafel. I'm sure it was delightful. we ate out in the sun at that veteran's memorial. thanks to the nearby sign in the linked photo, we weren't hassled by any members of Devo whilst we ate.

and tom petty had:

cat food and grapefruit
comments: yes! tom petty is still alive and now he's eating. tons. if you haven't figured out why his name is tom petty, it's simple. we found him after his freefallin' adventure. now he'll live like a refugee in a cardboard box where he's learnin' to fly out into the great wide open. also check out: Meighan's animated gif or my animatated gif of tom petty. I know.. hers is better. thanks for all the nestling raising advice, meighan!

mondo buritto
from: taco del mar
price: $7something
rating: &&&.8/&&&&&
comments: decent buritto today. yep. now click the pic to see a familiar face I saw on the way to work. naughty fella.

and ed had:

something from that crazy little vegan window on ¿richards? street
comments: click ed's n-gage to see an air attack on the Island Princess.

bonus bird lunch!

wettened bagel crumb(pictured here) and cat food
we found a little ¿starling? nestling on water street today. he was hopping into a store when the store lady brought us a box to carry him in. we put him in this box on the fire escape at work. probably not the very best thing to do, but what is? I figure he'd be better here than getting stomped or run over on the street. or at the spca where they'd just put him down. I tried to feed him some cat food (as suggested by a few websites for protein) but made sure to avoid the bird flavours. he wouldn't eat, but looked like he went to check out the food as I covered the box. we'll see what happens tomorrow.

shoo the children, with no shoes on their feet

sushi special
from: spin roll
price: $6ish
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: steve miller
comments: I forgot to take my camera to lunch. bah. and we ate at a great spot over by the cruise ship. I'm sure i'll be eating there again. really nice. so this lunch is not real. it's a fake pic. recycled from a previous Spin Roll lunch. now if you click the pic you will see a painting that hangs in my apartment. it was painted by my friend adam, who (I just learned yesterday) will be moving into the same building that my friend Jamey lives in. crazy cowinkydink!
