That Challenger looks like a modded Mustang. Sorry, I know that must sound insulting to you, but c'mon! just look at it.

First off, they should make the overall dimensions of the car smaller. What's with making a four door Charger these days, anyway? Someone at Chrysler's smoking rocks, I tells ya.

Here's hoping that it's either a fan mod or an early prototype yet to recieve proper revisions and cleanup.

The car needs a few things to be a charger: 2 doors, 8 cylinders and rear wheel drive. How is it that Chrysler has yet to build a proper Charger in the new millenium??

WHAT>?!>! MUSTANG>!!?? you dare use the M-word on my blog!

ok, first off, the challenger looks awesome. it looks like a hotwheels version of an old challenger.

and second off.. I agree with what you say about that ugly new charger. stupid chrysler! let's hope they really make the challenger and it's awesome.

not just any Mustang. The 2006 Mustang. It doesn't even look like a classic car - it looks like the cheesy upgrade Ford did to make their phony pony. Even the grilles are similar!

It looks like a hot wheels version because it's some jerk's tube-framed fiberglass kit riding on a stripped mustang. Wake me when Chrysler gets real.

wow. ouch. those are hurtful words, dave.

I think our opinions differ here. and I think when one of those challengers goes flying by you on the highway, you might sing a different tune.

the classic muscle cars of the 70s are gone. they will never make them like that again. we have to face that fact. it's just not possible anymore. "muscle cars" look different now. and up until now, they've looked stupid and horrible. Camaros, firebirds, mustangs and corvettes are prime examples of that.

as for the new mustang, I have to say it's the best looking car Ford has made since about 1968 (excluding the rebirth of the GT40). and this coming from an all-out ford-hater. I still hate them, because of what they stand for, but they finally look ok, in my opinion.

and the Challenger is a whole different story. this car looks supercool! or so I think. actually, you're the first person to disagree with me on this. a lot of my friends are big muscle car fans, and they all think this new challenger is the coolest looking american car since the awesome power of the early 70s.

out of curiosity... do you hate the 300, too? I think they did a good job with that one. the part I hate is that the made the new charger try to be like it, too. that was stupid. the new charger is an embarrasment to the old chargers. well, actually... the charger was made from 1966-the1980s... then again this year. and really, only about 4-5 years of those chargers were actually cool looking. they just happened to be the coolest looking car of all time. 1968.
/end rant.

Okay, I wasn't trying to be hurtful. I'll reign in my emotions.

For the record, I really like the 300. Like it a lot, actually. One of Chrysler's better cars in current production.

Also for the record, I really like the older Chargers (a la Dukes of Hazzard, etc.)

As for the latest Mustang, I also feel it's a drastic improvement over the models from the '90s, but am still not feeling the front end. Maybe if the grille was flush with the front? I dunno. Still doesn't have the magic of the early models is all I'm saying (pre 5.0)

Chrysler has the best design team these days in my opinion. Yes, Ford's trucks look good and the new mustang is improved, but they aren't as daring as Chrysler has been over the past decade. And Chevy, well to be honest I'm not really sure WHAT direction they are trying for right now. (I'm speaking of these three in the mega-corp sense, inclusive of sub-brands like Caddilac, etc.)

So with the best and most daring design team, I was kind of hoping for a re-invention of a classic theme for the Charger. This car, while it has many things right, didn't quite hit it for me. My hope is the actual production models have most of what I'm looking for worked out already.

Less hurtful?

yes. less hurtful. phew.

but what you expect cannot be. if they did re-do the charger properly, it would look a lot like that chellenger. cuz that rules. and the only reason it looks like a mustang (which it doesn't) is because it has a long nose, and a short trunk. that's what all the "pony cars" are like. the mustang lead to all these. camaro, firebird, charger, etc. all due to the popularity of the mustang.

but this challenger has clear old-skool-mopar stylings to it. clearly not mustanginal.

and yeah, the 300 is cool. it's just too bad chrysler thought that they shoudl apply it's style to the new charger. I probably wouldn't mind the new charger if they hadn't called it a charger.

I agree with the last thing you said a lot. The new Challenger is a great car, but a crappy version of the Challenger.

And for the record, if the 2 door challenger looks like the photos you displayed, it won't be all bad. I'm just picky about the things I like, and I'd like that to be one of them
