dip & get low ft. rodney p

lambandcauliflowertogo
from: curry point
price: $5.67
rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
listening to: stanton warriors

ubc is a neverending source of lunchtime excitement lately. on my way in from the bus I saw that the new biochem engineering building was having a fire drill, much like forestry did yesterday. on my way to lunch, it turns out that they were having a hazardous response team field trip instead. firetrucks galore!

and in honor of it being the last day of movember, the village was having a candlelight dinner cruise. mcclick the pic to see the ambiance in all it's majesty.

circles

number 12 (beef and tomato on rice)
from: hkcf
price: $5.25
rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
listening to: pola

they rang the firebell at noon to let me know it was lunch time. when I came back the fsc lounge had flooded, and is continuing to flood. thank goodness my office is still ok, nothing like a fire alarm to remind me that I haven't backed up any recent work off-site.

on my way home last night I decided to see why university blvd was out of order, and apparently it's because the world has turned black and white in there. and some parts of it were just plain black. click the pic to see the mess this caused for the bus system this morning, as each b-line stop had a line at least a block long.

update- the waterfall was caused by a frozen pipe. from bottom to top: sub ceiling, insulation, sprinkler system with cracked T fitting, uninsulated corrugated sheet metal roof, more cold than vancouver has ever seen.

remedy

(ginger beef + broccoli + beans) / rice
from: yi kou xiang
price: $5
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: the game

power's back on! but university blvd is still out of order, which means the park is quiet, and perfect for lunch. food was good, 'though it cooled off pretty quick. and chopsticks are hard to operate once your hands get frozen. but those are out of the control of the food preparators, so I won't dock any points on the rating.

this weather reminds me of the 'fax, snow + cold + sun = nice instead of the vancouver usual snow + rain = slush. pick the click to see a seagull swimming in the snow like it ain't no thang.

in one ear & out the other

(spinach + spicy pork + beef&broccoli) / rice
from: place next to curry point (I never remember how to spell their name)
price: $5
rating: &&&/&&&&&
apparently I'm taking over the LATV for a little while, since I'm the only person we know still regularily eating LATV. except now that there's no one to go to lunch with, I have taken gwilli's lead and usually bring my lunch back to my desk. also no guest lunches. that's too much work. yo blog, mo rules.
so how's this work? we have a picture, what I'm listening to in the post title, a cliick the picture to see notable ubc event of the day (actually yesterday), and a review? lunch was just ok. I was hoping for green beans, but they only had spinach. I need to try more of the unlabelled dishes there. click the pic to see the ivy covered wall at the hospital, after all the ivy blew off of it. I didn't get back in time to get a pic of it hanging off the wall.

lunch special C10
from: fujiyoshi? or something on hornby?
price: $8ish
rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
comments: we went to a place other than momo cuz there were no seats at momo. I like mom better. even the chicken terriyaki. we also ordered a catepillar roll which looked a little better than it tasted. not bad. but not that great. now click to see another tourist picture.

and ryan had:

ryan thought the chicken terriyaki was better here than momo. hm. I disagree. click to see the nice weather popping out from the office kitchen.

also... as ween noticed, r. is now a contributor at LATV. he's going to drive for a while since he actually eats at the village. let's all give him a big hand and see what he can do.

just because you got the personal album don't mean you have the secret album

lasagne!
from: pasta place at 530 hornby
price: just under $6
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: Kool Keith
comments: the pacific centre food court is now open. click to see a pic of it in all its fanciness. however, after going there and seeing the huge lineups for the too few food places, we moved on to the food court on hornby and pender. and I had the daily pasta special where I paid an extra fifty cents for a side of more pasta. it was quite good. I'd go there again.

rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: Neil Young
comments: I'd never noticed this deli before. but craig showed me. good sandwiches. I gotta try the goulash sometime, too.

and craig had:

no review. but you should click the pics to be transported back ot the village circa 1960 and 1969. that cibc is way older than I woulda thought. the original village food court has been burned since. I remember watching it (where mcdonalds is) burning one night in the 90s.

taco tuesday!!

4 beef tacos and mexi fries
from: Taco Time (Tinseltown food court)
price: $5.88
rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
comments: went to tinseltown's food court today. lots of options there. a lot of the heat-lamp foods looked like they'd been sitting a while. so we went to taco time. because it was time for tacos and it was Taco Tuesday, the day in which beef tacos are ninety-nine cents. yum. they were pretty good.

and kylee had:

bean burrito?
comments: ok, I think I'm done guest lunch reviews. unless I"m given a review by the guest, it's just too much work to get one every day. you can still see the food, though. and even better... you can still click the pics. this time, you will see the coolest car I see walking to work (click my lunch) and the coolest car I see walking home from work (click this lunch). of course, I'm excluding my charger, since I don't see much of it with the car cover and all.

price: $6.15 +tax (or was it $5.15, I forget. maybe it was 5.15 )
rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
listening to: David Bowie
comments: today I noticed a place I had never noticed before. bronco belle. texan? food. so I ordered the daily special, a bison burger. it was decent. not great. the big fat fries were pretty good, though. I think this place shows promise. maybe Ill have a steak for lunch soon. but the best part was the customer appreciation card (not stamped for specials). it's the best one I've ever seen. click to see it.

and kylee had:

some vegetablarian dishes from THE AMAZING WOK
comments: I guess she liked it? now, if you click the link, you will see what you often see outside a canucks game. it blows my mind that people pay this much to stop their automobiles. crazy. and the lot had 100 cars, maybe? I'm gonna buy me a parking lot.

the lamb dish that erwin had
from: Zorba Souvlaki (530 Hornby)
price: $6.79, I think
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: neil young
comments: today, I thought I'd try a different food court. so I went ot pacific centre. bad choice. the food court is gone. sbut soon to be opened anew. so I followed some detour through the mall, came outside, and I was lost. yes. lost in my own city. I had no idea which direction was what. and as I stood there trying to get my bearings, some lady asked where hornby was. I just stammered that I was lost myself, but then I saw hornby and headed towards it because erwintang.com taught me about the food court there.

and these are just more photos I took on the walk home. moody.

price: free
rating: &&&&&/&&&&&

comments: the cake was good too. I like. in this linked pic, a typical post-halloween find. I shoulda got a picture of the guy lining up pumpkins for his buddy to drive over in his truck. but I didn't.

and yet still another food court.

chicken tenders plate
from: Zorba Souvlaki (at an international food court - 530 Hornby)
price: $6.15+tax
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
comments: I met up with erwin today to get lunch from yet another food court. this one, was a funny little one on Hornby near Pender. It had one big similarity to the village... the lineup for the curry place was huge. but I had the greek food. which erwin treated me to. nice erwin.

and erwin had:

the lamb plate
comments: I didn't get a review from erwin, but perhaps he'll tell you how good the food was in the comments? now click the pics to watch me stalk erwin. him unawares. bwa ha ha.
