we all go bowling today

smoked meat hoagie with lobster bisque
from: The Delly (at the SUB)
price: $7.75
rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
listening to while eating: Beastie Boys - Hello Nasty
comment: good sandwich. a lot like yesterday's but without the kebobs. I like the montreal smoked meat way better anyway. and the lobster bisque is sub-par. it just tastes like soup flavoured bisque. I had good bisque once, and this isn't it.

The Caesar King's lunch:

coconut chicken curry
from: The Delly (at the SUB)
price: $5.17
rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
comment: too many bones. and too much rice. and too little sauce. not as good as the village's curry. very filling. but really, that was just the rice. bascially, if you want curry, go to the village.

Thursday, April 28, 2005

foosball table at the SUB is a little stiff. but great for control.

beef kabob sandwich
from: The Delly (at the SUB)
price: $4.75
rating: &&&.8/&&&&&
comment: not a bad sandwich. the kabob part wasn't that tasty, though. I almost went with roast beef, and now I'm thinking that I should have. next time I won't take such risks. I know roast beef is good, and maybe the kabob would have been good if I had eaten it while it was hot.

microwavable pasta
from: his fridge
price: no idea
rating: &&&/&&&&&
comment: 3 outta 5...yes....
It was good. It fills ~70% of my hunger....
The fetucinni feels fattening....but tasted not bad....

joooooy! (pork it up pork it up) and pain! sunshine. and rain.

mmmm... pork!
Combo #5; pork, rice, salad, salad roll
from: A-1 Vietnamese (Korean Spicy Pork and Beef)
price: $6.20
rating: &&&&.4/&&&&&
comment: I do love the pork. the pork is where it's at. and this pork is so delicious. no flavouring other than the pork itself, really. and boy is it tasty. this combo gives a lot of food, too. usually, I end up eating the salad roll hours later. but not today. today I ate it all.

stickbug!!!
blackberry leaves
from: the wild
price: free.
rating: &&&&&/&&&&&
comment: the stickbugs seem to really like the blackberry leaves. they just keep eating them. here's what one bug had to say about them, "I am a canadian stickbug pure and simple. and I just looove the blackberry leaves here. my ancestors are from India, but many generations back they immigrated here. and in the wild many of my ancestors died of the cold. but fortunately, we have friends who stuffed us into a jar and give us fresh blackberry leaves every week or so. sometimes I wish they bring them more often, but I'm just a stick."

sunny monday

Baby Chow Fun
Beef Chow Fun; spicy, to go.
from: Hong Kong Chinese
price: $6.37
rating: &&&&.3\&&&&&
listening to while eating: Ween. currently "the grobe"
comment: I do love HK Chinese's Beef Chow Fun. it's very good. I don't really know what else to say about it. I guess it's a lot of food, and all the same. beef, noodles, sprouts. that's it. I should have more variety in my life, but it tastes real good. and Liam thinks so, too. he's the baby. 'lil Liam. don't be afraid. Russ says all babies look like Winston Churchill. and here's an unrelated link.

CaesarMike's lunch:
the caesar king has another salad
Caesar Salad
from: thinkFresh (not sure of the name, the old SubWay in the Woodward building.)
price: $5.69 or so
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
comment: mike is the king of caesar salads. he's had them from almost everywhere UBC offers them. actually, I bet tehre's lots more... like 99 chairs, the Pit, thunderbar, and places like that. but from the ones he's tried, this is the order he rates them (from best to worst): Foodcourt at the Sub, thinkFresh (at woodward), Bread Garden, starbucks, then amigo's. poor amigo's. he also tried McDonald's caesar. he said it was hella-salty. he didn't say hella. I embelish.

thunder road. bar. thunder bar. road. uh..

philly cheesey steakey.
Philly with potato wedges.
from: Thunder Bar
price: $10.50. too much.
rating: &&&\&&&&&
listening to while eating: 3 Days by Jane's Addiction. I think I've listened to this song well over 10 times since yesterday. and it's 11 minutes long. weird.
comment: went to thunderbar. drank beer. ate food. not bad food. I'd rate it higher if it didn't cost me over $10. the best part of lunch was flicking the football cards on the way there. like hockey cards, but much less valuable. topsies, knocksies, closies... you know.

Craig's lunch:
hot wings, yo.
hotwings.
from: thunderbar
price: how would I know? ask Craig? that's ridiculous!
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
comment: Craig said he liked his hotwings. here's some news for y'all... there will be no more thunderbar. next friday, they don't open until 3pm. then no more fridays all summer. bah. guess we'll have to head down to the Jericho Sailing centre for beers.

happy aircare day!

everybody knows, it's Wendy's.
jr. bacon cheeseburger, small frosty, vietnamese sub.
from: all over the 'Couve
price: I don't feel like doing the math, but well under $10.
rating: &&&&\&&&&&
listening to while eating: my iPod as I drove around the city. the only song I remember is Hippo Stomp by Steppenwolf.
comment: my insurance runs out on Vivian Dracula today. So I figured I should get her Aircared, so I wouldn't have to come Winter. And she passed!! huzzah! the sad part is that after today, she will be parked for months and months. hopefully the charger will be ready soon. maybe next week if all goes well. until then, I'm busman!

no guest lunch today:
the sub that ate my iPod
other than my Aircare adventure, I also searched briefly for bucket-person. I found where I think he was working, but there was no one visible. is there a green dumpster in front of the house, Beer Person? and a jonnyonthespot? was that the right place? maybe everyone was at lunch?

let's go to the parrrrk. (let's go watch the floodin')

4 lunches.
curry, curry, mcBurger, chinese foods.
from: The Village
price: combind total of $25.64
rating: hello\&&&&&
listening to while eating: new Gorillaz. it'll be out next month.
comment: this was a lunchblog celebrity lunch in the park. yours truly was there, and the usual anonymous, and r. and Winky and Blinky were there, too - from PacMan fame. or maybe it was greg and jason, I kinda forget. and there was a blimp, and there was boom boom boom.

gangstas infiltrate the village.
this is a typical gangsta greeting. you can tell by the pita.
note the grand am. it was pumpin the tunes for all to groove to.

ladies and gentlemen... Erwin Tang!

box C. unoriginal, yet delicious!.
Box C. (chicken terriyaki, udon, and california roll)
from: Osaka Sushi
price: $7.44
rating: &&&&.5\&&&&&
listening to while eating: Neil Young - Harvest. "Think I'll pack it in and... buy a pick up... drive it down to LA"
comment: Box C is the best of three worlds. you get the world of California (roll) and the world of Udon, and the world of terriyaki chicken. the variety makes me happy. If you want to see the nicest picture of this meal, you should go back to here.

Erwin's lunch:
ERWIN ERWIN ERWIN!!
just a california roll
from: Osaka Sushi
price: I'm not sure. $3 or something?
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
comment: I ran into Erwin at the village as I was so busy that I didn't get to lunch until well after 1. crazy. and there was Erwin. Who often mentions me in his blog, but I don't get a chance to do the same, because I don't have lunch with him ever. and in this photo, his eyes had a weird blur to them that made them look heavily eyeshadowed. he said I could us the pic, if I changed the eyes. et.. voila! (ps... you can comment on his blog, too, Hiroko)

Fezzin' it up, here boss!

2 outa 3 pork items.  I'm good.
3 items. I got pork balls, some other pork and those little green things with squid in it.
from: Yi Kou Xiang Foods
price: $4.50+tax
rating: &&&&\&&&&&
listening to while eating: Pavement - Wowee Zowee. I used to think Crooked Rain Crooked Rain was their best album... but now I'm torn. the song "Flux=Rad" really rocks.
comment: good food. I went to get jason his curry, but standing in line, I couldn't help but desire the delicious chinese food. the pork balls are sweet/sour-ish. delicious. but I like the really big porkballs better, methinks. I also got a pepsi. all that food and a pepsi for under 5 bucks. nice. and the fez? well, the fez did not come with the meal, it's Hiroko's.

Jenna's lunch:

3 items: mushroom chicken, tofu, green pepper celery dried tofu.
from: My Home Cuisine
price: $4.50 + tax
rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
comment: Jenna says: "although it looks pretty pale, it tates not bad.. not great.. but ok." Personally, it didn't look very good to me. But she seems to have liked it. I don't think I'll be going to My Home Cuisine any time soon. It's the place that used to be Mom's Taco. Wonder why that place didn't last?

Friday, April 15, 2005

beerday. er.. uh... FRIday.

ketchup and moutarde
Thunder chicken, fires and beer.
from: The Tunderbar
price: $19.75 (with pitcher of beer)
rating: &&&.5\&&&&&
listening to while eating: uh.. soap operas? I forget what they had on TV there, but now I'm listening to Pavement. oooh yeah! wowee zowee!!
comment: drank beer, ate food, watched people skate. forgot to take picture of my lunch, so here's the katchup and mustard I was dipping my fries in.

no one else's lunch:
shoot the duck, yeah!
figure skater
from: thunderbar window
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
comment: very good skaters to watch while we eat/drank. this one was shooting the duck (as seen here) but also did those slow spins that turn into really fast spins, and jumped into spins, and held her leg above her head and spun and spun. it was a little dizzying to watch.

"pum-panininini, pum-panininini" - Leonard Cohen.

paninininininny
Turkey and cheese panini
from: thinkFood? it looks like that's what it's called. it's where subway used to be in the Woodward building.
price: $5.89
rating: &&&\&&&&&
listening to while eating: Spiritualized.
comment: I had hear that this place is bad. I paid six bucks for a little brilled sandwich. sure, it was tasty, but it wasn't six dollars tasty. bah. if it was under $5, it would be a great deal. they have lots of salads there, and paninis, and not much more. it's weird.

Usual Anonymous's lunch:
a whole lotta curry!
Butter Chicken and Spinach
from: Curry Point
price: $5.87
rating: &&&.75/&&&&&
comment: I'm not sure what Hiroko has to say about this. I know one thing.. she got the samosa instead of pop. this means that it was a lot of food. I don't think she'll finish it. it looks like a lot, doesn't it?

muscle cars and pixar toys

Dash
McChickens, fries, Dash toy and a muscle car calendar.
from: McDonald's (and the dollar store)
price: $8.93
rating: &&&.5\&&&&&
listening to while eating: The Police - Greatest hits - "so lonely, so lonely, so lonely..." says Sting.
comment: this is the first time I've put McDonald's on the blog. so it's a big deal. so I went all out, spending the extra $1.79 on the Dash toy, and another buck on the muscle car calendar. The calendar has a GSX and a Superbird in it that are cool. Otherwise it's just a bunch of stupid ron kimball pics. does that guy do every car calendar in the world?

Tony's lunch:
Tony's home cookin!
Soy Sauce Chicken on rice with Tofu and Proawns.
from: Chez Tony
price: priceless
rating: &&&&&/&&&&&
comment: Tony was really proud of his cookin'. it did look rather tasty. he was adamant that I got the chicken in focus. notice that it's all blurry. yeah, that's right! it's my blog and there's NO RULES!! whooooo!! but if you look at the left of the pic, you can just see tony's face. go tony!

HEY RITCHIE!!!!

just Dew it
curries. butter Chicken and potatoes and onions (they were out of the yoghurt curry, but they still gave me a taste of the sauce.)
from: Curry Point
price: $5.87
rating: &&&.5\&&&&&
listening to while eating: Air - Talkie Walkie (I didn't even know this album existed, but someone's got it in their iTunes. so far, it sounds pretty good. it's no Moon Safari, but that's a tough album to top.)
comment: not much to say about my lunch. it's pretty ordinary. the exciting part is that ritchie was here!! he's back in the 'couve, from the 'fax. you may know him as "r." in the comments section. so here's his lunch...

Ritchie's lunch:
minutes before the bounty on his head was collected
more curries. lamb curry, and spinach
from: Curry Point
price: $5.87
rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
comment: ritchie was a little disappointed with the naan. too doughy for him. it was a little undercooked, but I liked it. He said he was happy to be back eating food at the village. I think he's a tough marker. I'm glad he's not my tshirt. I mean teacher.

friday bloody friday (I mean that in a good way)

This little piggy had smoked meat!
Smoked Meat Sandwich
from: The Delly
price: $5.25
rating: &&&&\&&&&&
listening to while eating: U2 - War. such a good album.
comment: went to the SUB today. lotsa kids wandering around campus since it's the last day of classes and Arts county fair day. This is good news for me because it means the campus will have less and less people on it from now until september. yay. so the sandwich was great. it always is from the Delly. The sandwich ladies were skilled and effecient as always. and Kazu went to the arcade. and I noticed that they have foos there. $1/game. more expensive than here, but the table is in tip-top shape. (just take lube for the bars if you're going to play... they need it)

Jacky's lunch:
spicy pork. yeah pork! I love pork!
Spicy Pork on Rice
from: A-1 Vietnamese (or Spicy Beef and Pork Korean place)
price: $5.30 (or so)
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
comment: here's what Jacky had to say about his lunch today, "weather is good – sunny but a bit windy, Apr 08, 2005 – The food is good, a bit spicy but its all good. As well, it comes with a bit of veggie salad. "

Quizno's and a DVD burner

Quizno would be a great word in scrabble. did you know that zlote is a word?!
Turkey, Bacon, Guacamole Sub
from: Quizno's
price: $10.69 ($143 with DVD burner and 50 DVD-Rs)
rating: &&&&\&&&&&
listening to while eating: Alice in Chains - greatest hits
comment: I had to go pick up some slides today at lunch, so I decided to buy a DVD burner as well. the $98 pioneer with dual-layer +-R capability was on sale for $82 at NCIX. great deal. if you need a burner, go get one now. and Quizno's is good. delicious. it always is. mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......

souvlaki for all!

Bebe's Souvlaki
Large Chicken Souvlaki (with dill rice, some other rice, greek salad and tzaziki)
from: Bebe Mediterranean Fast Food
price: $7.05
rating: &&&&\&&&&&
listening to while eating: Hefner.
comment: I have only been to Bebe once before. And I was disappointed. So I never went back. Until today. And it's good. I got the large chicken souvlaki. it was $1.60 more than the small, which only has one skewer of chicken. and one skewer is never enough. and the guy was very very nice. he offered me two types of rice, hot sauce on the chicken, and chicken sauce on the rice. and some weird little piece of fried bread (which was rather tasteless). Overall? a good meal, but 7 dollars. that's a lot.

Marty's lunch:
pita pit pita
Chicken Souvlaki Pita
from: Pita Pit
price: $6.67
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
comment: Marty went to pita pit. He likes it. After all the overtime pitas I've eaten in my day, I just can't go back there. maybe someday. Here's what he says about it: "what the heck ... make it a 4 out of 5 ... it's quite tastey... fairly nutritious too" The thing that astounds me is that they charged him $0.25 to use their interac. To me, that seems like no kinda way to treat a customer.

Wario portrait in udon.

gettin mah food on with beef udon
Beef Udon
from: Osaka Japanese
price: $5.25+tax
rating: &&&&\&&&&&
listening to while eating: Trucker's Atlas by Modest Mouse.
comment: an often repeated dish. can't go wrong with this beef udon. yummy. and beefy. and Warioey. "ahahahaha," says Wario. but know what the coolest thing of the day is? the satellite imagery they've added to google maps. Just put your address in, search, then click the satellite button in the top right. sooo cool. and you can look at the stars homes in Malibu.

Greg C's lunch:
peel that grapefruit
I think Greg had Salmon for lunch. But this is his dessert. a grapefruit.
from: home
price: priceless
rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
comment: Greg had salmon. but it was gone by the time I took pictures. so this is his dessert grapefruit. Greg eats healthy. that way I don't have to. thanks Greg! He said this was a normal tasting grapefruit. very messy. Greg would like to someday see the world.

Monday, April 04, 2005

here's bibimbap in your eye!
Bibimbap
from: A-1 Vietnamese (or Korean Spicy BBQ)
price: $6
rating: &&&&\&&&&&
listening to while eating: Black Mountain. they got cool songs.
comment: Bibimbap. so good. if you don't know what it is, then google it. I'll just say that it has an egg, smoe beef?, lots rice, mushrooms, spinach and lotsa spicy sauce. quite delicious. and it'll fill you up for $6.

Ali's lunch:
can't get enough of that Davis Hasselhoff
butter chicken and lentils.
from: Curry Point
price: $5.50
rating: &&&&.5/&&&&&
comment: Ali is a good person. why? because he brings his own container to the curry point. this saves styrofoam for people like me to use. Good on ya, Ali. I think he also really likes David Hasselhoff. Or that's what Alex led me to believe. Here's what Ali says about his food, "I've been eating this same lunch every monday since I started working at WebCT. I havn't gotten tired of it, but I have serious doubts about it being healthy food."

weekend instant noodles.

POP ME!
Pop Mie instant noodles.
from: Steven Steven
price: priceless
rating: &&&.5\&&&&&
listening to while eating: can't remember. I ate it a while ago. but right now Beck is playing.
comment: Steven Steven was kind enough to donate some instant noodles from Indonesia for me. He said it contains no baby hamsters. And I guess I should believe that, because he wouldn't have had time to dry them out and put them in the little seasoning packets. The noodles were pretty good. Not outstanding. I still think that Nong Shim noodles kick the most ass. There was another brand I tried yesterday that was really good. like, really really good. I'll have to get more of them. They were a little pricy at $.69, but worth every penny. These noodles here, however, had one incredible advantage. The fork. You see that fork?? it's collapsible! crazy.

I drove to the village.

BAM!
Chevrolet Impala with bacon.
from: My House
price: $infinity
rating: &&&&&&\&&&&&
listening to while eating: soundgarden. it's just that kind of day.
comment: ok, so I didn't really eat this. April Fools! ooh, what a joke. I'm so funny. ok, maybe not. well, anyway. I just got beefandeggonricespicytogo for lunch. they forgot to make it spicy, so they just poured the chili on after. I think I might die. it's not that it's burning my mouth or anything, I just can't really breathe after a few bites. ouch.

my lunch:

there ya go. beef and egg on rice. hope you like it.
