why everybody always pickin on danger?

chicken breast (joojeh)
from: Bebe Mediterranean Cuisine
price: $7.04
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: Danger Doom
comments: I don't get the Bebe food very often. although, it's always pretty good. it's just kind of expensive. at least what I order is, cuz I like food. and if you click on this pic, you will see (what I considered) the best halloween costume that I saw this weekend.

and jason's curry came in:

a bag
from: Curry Point
price: you pay for what's in the bag
rating: &&&&&/&&&&&&
comments: Curry Point is giving out these fresh new bags. wow. they are really something special. and yes, that tiny text on it reads, "wish you luck". weird. so, click on the bag. and you will see the Liger that was prowling around the office today. happy halloween, all.

attack of the giant pumpkin robot!

3 items
from: that place next to the curry
price: $4.82
rating: &&&&.2/&&&&&&
listening to (right now): Sarah and May singing 'the locomotion'
comets: I like comets. but lunch was pretty good, too. the best part is that it was picked for me and brought ot me. although, I wouldn't get the deepfried prawns again, it was good because they were brought to me. and the chinese brocoli was good because I need greens. but the spicy chicken was the best. very good spicyness. I don't like picking off the bones much, but like I said, it was perfect spiciness. in other news, erin and I lost the pumpkin carving contest today. bah.

and Dave had:

organic burger
from: Vera's burger shack
price: $9 and change
rating: &&&&&/&&&&&
comments: dave seems to have really liked this burger. he also said this:
David says:
they gave me stupid amounts of ketchup. twelve packets. i think it's a jeesus thing.
Dr. Greg says:
stigmata?
David says:
naw, apostles.
Dr. Greg says:
aha I get it
Dr. Greg says:

David says:

pool playin' pizza eatin

lunch #1:

bagels and cheezy goody dip
from: choices
price: $8 (for 6 bagels and a whole thing o dip)
rating: &&&&.5/&&&&&
comments: since work took us to play pool today, I didn't eat a real lunch. just delicisou bagels and dip. mmm.. the only reason I don't rate that a 5 is because of the outlandish price. $4 for 6 bagels?! $4 for a little dip?! I guess it's the quality I'm playing for, not the quantity. but I'm more of a quantity type guy.

lunch #2:

pizza
from: panago
price: free!
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
comments: so, the company took us to play pool for the afternoon. fun! I thought they stopped doing things like that, but they still do. once in a while. and I ate lots of pizza, lost lots of pool and won/lost lots of foosball. overall a good time. in the photo here, you can see Lance flipping my pizza the bird. wow. not a very good example for his kids, that Lance.

rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
listening to: Robert Zimmerman
comments: everybuddy's got lotto fever today. yeah. lotto fever. I bought a ticket. I'll probably win. I also do. I'm such a millionaire. the food was good, but not much to report about it, other than to say that the deepfried prowns aren't as good as the deep fried fish. both linked pics today are all about lotto fever sweeping the nation.

and craig had:

2 Chicken Rotis + 2 Oatmeal Raisin Cookies + 1 CocaCola Zero
from: International News (across the street corner store by starbucks)
price: $4.98 after tax.
rating: ØØØØ/ØØØØØ for value and taste.
comments: Craig says, "I loves me the CocaCola Zero (Ø), in case you haven't tried it, you should. Tastes much more like a regular CocaCola and not like New Coke (which is what Diet Coke is), still a slight aspartame aftertaste, but yummy**!"

**The author does not agree with the above statement. It still tastes like crap to me.

from: Yi Kou Xiang Delicious Foods
price: $4.82
rating: %%%%%/&&&&&
listening to: Led Zeppelin. all day long.
comments: you might notice the crazy rating. this is as close as one can get to &&&&&, without actually scoring &&&&&. it's just a bit better than &&&&.9 make sense? it shouldn't. this was a great lunch. such variety. Yi Kou Xiang has many more options now. they re-did the counter, and now it's huge. kinda like the curry place did a couple months back. and the girl was nice and gave me a 4th item, for the price of three items. boy, do I love items!

cheeseboigah!
burger daily special - cantor burger w/ fries n gravy
from: Vera's Burger Shack
price: $9.58
rating: &&&&.5/&&&&&
listening to: Bright Eyes - all day long.
comments: I finally did it. Soggy Poncho and I finally went to Vera's. and it was good. quite good. much better than Alex said it was. But then again, Alex is really weird when it comes to food. so, the fries were alright, but the gravy made them great. good gravy, I say. and the burger? wow. so messy. there are 4 categories of fixins you can get at Veras: free, $.50, $1, $1.50. I thought I might as well get all the fixins in the free category. and there's a lot. so it made a very messy burger. and I guess they were out of salami, so I got bacon on my burger. I love bacon, so this was fine.

and erin had:

homemade pizza - portobello and proscuitto
from: erin's house
rating: erin says she don't want to rate it.
comments: stay tuned. nothing to report at this time.

in the rain or in the snow, I got the funky flow.

salt and pepper pork chop (b3)
from: HK Chinese
price: $4.82
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: Parappa the rapper.
comments: tasty stuff. it's the pork chop that I get in soup usually. it kinda tastes like Pork Karaage. if there is such a thing. anyway, I liked it.

beef n tofu on rice
from: HK Chinese
price: free - customer appreciation card was full
rating: 0/&&&&&
comments: erin was very unhappy with her meal. it seems that the tofu was off. bad. yucky. we ended up taking it back and complaining, and the nice chefguy made her beefneggonricespicytogo. even though erin doesn't like the beef in this dish very much. so I got to eat it. I think the second dish got about &&&/&&&&&. but the tofu? no. the tofu? no.

one good thing about music... when it hits, you feel no pain.

3 items
from: Yi Kou Xiang Delicious Foods
price: $4.82
rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
listening to all day: Bob Marley
comments: good lunch. the three items were some kinda chicken, some kinda pork, and spicy-ish tofu. it was basically exactly what I expected. but today, we get a special threesome food review. one from across the water. enjoy...

and Alex had:

cheeseburger and fries
from: Vera's Burger Shack
price: $10.11
rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
comments: I'll just quote Alex directly, "I got the 4 cheese burger, with fries. I give it a 3.5 out of 5. Overall, the burger was relatively bland, and the fries were too greasy. It took about 15 minutes for our food to show up. Overall, not worth the $10.11"

and Greg Chan had:

"foreign name that escapes me (should translate to "lamb delicious" with leak and bean pilaf.)"
from: "The Turkish restaurant next door to our hotel [in London]"
price: "about 10 quid"
rating: &&&&&/&&&&&
comments: so greg's lunch comes to us from his honeymoon in London. here's what he had to say about it, "In london the food can be pretty crap at times, even the famous pub food has become largely frozen and reheat variety. The Turkish restaurant next door to our hotel is fantastic. I had this lamb and rice dish, its tasty, lean and tender the rice was nice and kind of melted in your mouth. We had the baklava and it was excellent. We spent the day on a quest for Miswak a herb used for dental goodness, it led us the the central mosque at Regents Park, I weaved through a
small sea of praying muslims into the basement where books and other islamic good are sold, I bought about a lifetime supply. During the busy bud ride home, a lady started preaching on the bus, to which the bus driver yelled 'No Bible bashing, we are all Atheists! stop now or I will kick you off!' "

I haven't tried it yet because there was too many people in there today. and Bucket told us that his buddies had to wait over half an hour after ordering there. yikes. I'll have to take a late lunch someday and go there. yeah. and if you click on this pic, you'll see a great site to waste time. now get back to work.

comments: Ernest gave me a piece of the green onion pancake. it was yummy. here's what he had to say, "I like that I can see, smell, taste, and hear. With your senses, food is not just to keep you alive, it is more. It has culture, it has love, it can make you smile and even cry.... it is very magical... large turkey,bacon,guac sub
from: Quizno's
price: $10
rating: &&&/&&&&&
listening to while eating: live tragically hip
comments: I had to take my car in to get some repairs done. I'm going to spend half of what I paid for the whole car on these repairs. yikes. oh well. I guess that's how it works. my lunch today was not so great. it was great that we stopped at quizno's to get lunch. but the time it took to get back to the office made the sandwiches cold and not so good. hey usual anony!! I have a job for you. click on the pic here and translate the names of the first two characters in the picture for me, ok? those are the figurines my neice and nephew got from my travels.

small honey bacon club
from: Quizno's
price: $6
rating: &&&&.5/&&&&&
comments: it seems erin didn't mind that her sandwich was cold. she still rated it high. she said, "kinda cold (not the fault of quiznos), but still delicious. i wolfed it down. yummy pepper."
DISCLAIMER: I didn't get a picture of the sub before she wolfed it down, so what you are seeing is an artistic representation of what the sandwich may or may not have looked like as it was eaten. any similarities to known personalities, living or not, is purely coincidental.

and so it is...

again. lunch at the buffet and no picture to prove it
rating: &&&&&/&&&&&
comments: they were putting this fish on the grill that was absolutely amazing. so good. what a way to go out. the pic here is a very sad one. it's the all-inclusive-wristband being cut off my wrist. no more food. no more drinks. so sad. but if you click the pic you will see a short clip of the surf viewed from my hotel room. aaah, my hotel room. I miss it already. its 14 degree coolness. its tv playing all sorts of enjoyable movies. carol, melvin and the giant sloth miss it, too. they can't wait for their next trip.

this is a pic of the plane that took us home. look at it. sitting there. so smug. it knew nothing of the wristband. the drinks. the food. the pools. bye bye mexico. if you click the pic, you'll see a clip of the bus ride back to the airport.

more seafood in PV and a kid in a bucket.

especial burrito (prawn, octopus and fish)
from: PV taco stand
price: $6
rating: &&&&&/&&&&
comments: back to puerto vallarta again, and back to the same fish taco stand. so good. so so good.

this is the bus ride into puerto vallarta. the bus rides always provide much amusement. guitar players and singers frequently climb on board and do a few songs, then ask for money. the first singing guitar duo that joined us were amazing. truly talented. the other ones weren't quite as good, but still provided some entertainment. click on the pic to see some of the great sites we got to see out the window. funny kid. he was about to get a bath.

takin it easy at the resort

I ate at the buffet again. no picture again.
rating: &&&&&/&&&&&
comments: although I stopped taking pictures of my buffet lunches, I know they were great. I was a regular at the grill where they would fry up tuna, pork, chicken, fish or beef for me. and it was always amazing. so these pics are of us all playing a little billiards game made up by me, toby, gord and olly years ago. the game is called psychological warfare. it's good fun.

eating, flying, and walking around PV

fish tacos and ceviches
from: some taco stand in Puerto Vallarta
price: I think they were about 10 pesos each, more or less.
rating: &&&&&/&&&&&
comments: our crew's PV verterans, Ben and Janice, took us to this taco stand to show us how good street meat could be. and it was amazing. so good. and we bought some beer at the store at the corner. overall, a perfect lunch.

parasailing
after lunch, ben and janice had organized parasailing for us over the beach and city of Puerto Vallarta. this was much fun. here's a shot of jim coming in for a landing, and if you click the pic, you'll see one of the shots I was abel to take while flying over the beach. the only problem with this was that it started raining while I was up there, so they packed it all in and poor soggy poncho didn't get to fly :(

Tuesday, October 04, 2005

soggy poncho's birthday!

lobster head
I didn't eat this for lunch. Jim just found it on the beach. I imagine I had some buffet food for lunch, but forget to take a photo. oh well. click the pic to see the superstar singer's horse being walked on the beach. the superstar singer guy lived in a nice big place right next to the resort. I never saw him, but we did see his magnificent horse. a real beauty, it was.

jason - birthday boy
here's how jason spent his birthday. lazing around drinking strawberry margeritas. if you click the pic, you'll see the volleyball game that jason didn't participate in. and rightly so. I played a couple quick games and it almost killed me. soo hot.

the chanaple wedding. the sequel!

gazpacho
from: the palladium buffet
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
comments: the gazpacho was great. most of the soups at the buffet were fantastic. but more importantly, this was the day of greg and nicole's wedding! this was the whole reason for us all to go to mexico. click to the see the happy couple gettin' all hitched.

the wedding cake
rating: &&&&&/&&&&&
comments: I rate this cake a 5 because it was, hands down, the best wedding cake I ever ate in mexico. and the figurines bore an incredible likeness to the real bride and groom. just click the cake pic to make the comparison for yourself.

the buffet. my home away from my room.

beach
hotdog and more
from: the Palladium buffet
price: all inclusive
rating: &&&/&&&&&
comments: for most of my trip in Mexico, I ate food from the buffet at the Palladium Vallarta, where we were staying. This buffet was awesome, although it took a few days to get good at choosing the right foods. this first lunch wasn't so great. it would be the only time I got a hotdog here. and if you click the pic you will see the beach in Bucerias where we went on our first out trip from the hotel.

some vegetarian food
from: the Palladium buffet
comments: jason ate food, too. we all did. and for those of you who have never seen it, Jason also wore shorts! yes he did. click to see it!

I'm going down south way down to Mexico way

huuuuumid
For lunch, I ate a sandwich from a cardboard box on my westjet flight to Mexico. this was a very good flight. the food wasn't nothing special, but is it ever on a airplane? no. it's not. but if you ever take a westjet charter flight, you can expect some comfort and a merry staff. the pic here shows what happens if you keep your camera in an air conditioned room, then take it outside in october in mexico. humidity hits. it hits hard and lenses get all fogged up. this pic is the view from my hotel room at the Palladium about 45 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta. click the pic to see the fog-less shot.
