the war machine, oh, it keeps on rollin'

3 items; honey garlic ribs, twice cooked pork, fish fillet
from: yi kou xiang
price: $5
rating: &&/&&&&&
listening to: black mountain
comments: bad choices on the items. not very fresh, and not that great. the fish was cold. the twice cooked pork was just not that good, and neither were the ribs. oh well. click the pic to see my nephew as I saw him this weekend (on the left). and on the way to saltspring, I saw this tour bus. lookit that sponsor? wonder what's was happening on THAT tour?

and erin had:

spicy noodles
from: yi Kou Xiang
price: $2.99+tax
rating: &&/&&&&&
comments: erin wasn't too fond of these noodles. I thought they were pretty good for the low price of 3 bucks. but then again, there was no meat, no veggies. just noodles in (not all that spicy) peanut sauce. if you just want noodles, you could get some nong shim for about a buck. click the pic to see erin's get up from her ultimate tourney on salt spring (give it a minute to load).

And then the time will come when you motor away

food
from: The Wall (the great wall mongoloian bbq on braodway near macdonald)
price: $6
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: Guided by Voices
comments: the wall. ah yes, the wall. for the first time ever, I had the smaller bowl, since I wasn't that hungry. after cooking, my food looked about he same size as eric's larger bowl. yay. the reason we went to the wall is because jesse is moving to victoria and ed lee is leaving here for another job. bye guys!!
now... click the pic to see how jason did not follow the rules outlined in this here video clip. oh jason.

and jesse had:

and if you're still hungry for an amusing photo... I saw this in the parking lot across from the office.

A9 (general tzo's chicken, black bean beef, prawn stick and spring rolls)
from: Hong Kong Chinese
price: $5.83
rating: &&&&&/&&&&&
listening to: skynryrd
comments: crazy good lunch. the new A# combos are great. really good variety, really good value. I don't go to HK Chinese as much as I used to. but it's still very good. especially when the main chef is working. which is usually the case during peak hours. now click the pic to see the new "software developer" at the office today.

and justin had:

kids of today should defend themselves against the 70s

tortellini
from: Mahony's Irish pub
price: $10.95 (pint of killkenny $6.95!)
rating: &&/&&&&&
listening to: Mike Watt
comments: Mahony's Irish pub is now open! right by Cafe Crepe. this is definitely the most expensive food place I've been to on campus. and, on its first day open, I'm thinking it's not worth the moneys. sure the beer was delicious, but for a couple bucks more, I coulda bought a 6pack from the old LS. bah. and the food was ok. but nothing special. the tortellini was nicely baked with cheese, and spinach and tomato, the the tomato just made it very watery.

and john li had:

AAA Sirloin burger
from: Mahony's
price: $11ish
rating: &/&&&&&
comments: john didn't actually review this burger, I'm going to review it for him. the burger was dry. that was all he had to say about it. he said it at least 3 times, though. and he had to wait until everyone else was done eating before his food arrived. sure, the place just opened today, so it's not streamlined at all yet, but I'm basing this review on what we ate, not what the place might be like in a couple months time. click to see the fancy interior of the place.

one good thing about our lunch was when greg decided to sport a beer-stache. not to be outdone, I tried, too. erin also tried, but had trouble extending her upper lip to get a good 'stache. heehee.

I'm still learning how to crawl

3 items
from: Yi Kou Xiang
price: $5
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: Daniel Lanois
comments: i had three items. they went into my belly. that's all about that. in other news, the vans warped tour was today, and oddly, the ubc parking police were rather lenient. you see, this car fulla kids parked outside my window at noon. yet you can only park there for 2 hours. they paid for one hour and 15 minutes of parking. I figured this meant that they would get a few tickets and get towed. alas, but no. when I left in the evening the car was still there. no ticket, no towing. and I was thinking I'd get towing pictures. oh well. --linked is a lunch-related movie that entertained meighan greatly.

and jason had:

curry.
deal with it.
and an ice cream sandwich.

it's a little bit funny, this feeling inside...

sushi combo a
from: osaka sushi
price: uh... $6ish
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: you tell me
comments: the sushi combo a almost always satisfies. yum. now click the pic to see if you think I made a fair trade.

and erin had:

spicy crispy tuna and yoshinko? roll
from: osaka sushi
price: dunno
rating: dunno, but I think it's about &&/&&&&&
comments: I didn't get a review from erin. and now she's running around some field chasing a piece of plastic. but I know she wasn't happy with the spicy crispy tuna roll because the tuna was not fresh. I'm thinking that maybe the tuna got cooked when the whole roll was deep fried, thus making it quite dry. personally, I thought this dryness was compensated for by the spicy sauce. and it's cooked texture reminded me a little of ahi tuna (mmmmm... ). but erin did not agree. she didn't like it, and I managed to get some in a trade for my sushi. now click the pic to see ernest's little boy, matthew, who came to the office for a visit on friday.

from: MacFalafel (10th and Alma)
price: $2.99+tax
rating: &&&/&&&&
listening to: pink floyd
comments: click to see the free slurpee that I got from 7-11, since today was 7-11 which means greg's birthday and 7-11's birthday. they claim to be 79 years old. do you think it's really their birthday, or do you think it's more like christmas, where they just made it a convenient date?

and erin had:

chicken udon
from: Osaka Sushi
price: $5.25
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: Danger Doom in the hizzie
comments: what acn I say? I love the soggy chicken. today's hidden links are my attempt to revive my old blog. clicky linky. see how it's done. then click erin's lunch to get to the camera. the focus seems to be messed up, but when you zoom all in, it's fine. so get some screenshots and send them to me!

and erin had:

mushroom risotto and rootbeer-braised shortribs
from: wes' kitchen
rating: &&&&.5/&&&&&
comments: here's what erin says about her lunch: "minus half an ampersand for the lack of moisture in the shortrib after 2 days in the fridge. but that could've been due to microwaving it to heat it up? regardless, it was still tasty. and the mushroom risotto with 4 kinds of mushrooms... mmm delicious! tomorrow i will have leftover duck for lunch!"

field trip!

burger and fries
from: the vancouver aquarium cafeteria
price: way too much
rating: &&&/&&&&&
comments: today we didn't work. something about giving up a news years holiday for a longer july weekend. so a bunch of us went on a field trip to the vancouver aquarium. jason's friend, meighan, was awesome enough to get us in. yay. it was very busy. but still fun. especially the green sea turtle that was recently rescued from being lost. click to see it!
