come on 'n dance on the freedom train!

pork pork pork!
3 items: lamb curry, lemon chicken, the fish
from: Yi Kou Xiang Delicious (northern) Foods
price: $5.08
rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
listening to: lenny kravitz
comments: today was a landmark day at LATV. I no longer work for webct. none of us do. we officially work for blackboard. will anythign change for me? probably not. I'll keep on eating. mmmm... food. but that's not why today is a landmark day at LATV. this landmark is all about me saying no to 5 styrofoam containers a week. that's right. I'm going eco. I got a container (thanks ernest!) and I'm gonna use it from now on for most of my meals. yay!! I'm just like Ali now!!!

and dave b had:
alt alt alt!
appetizer sashimi and california roll
from: Sushi King house. 8176 granville st ( Granville between 65th and 66th )
price: $8.24
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
comments: dave says, "I've been craving sushi for the past few weeks, but don't like going to the paces on campus for sushi because they're so expensive and their rolls are so small. I sometimes go to Sushi King for dinner, but it's been a while. Unfortuantely I had a gas leak in my furnace which i had to go home for this morning. I took the opportunity to get some sushi!! This was just the right amount and hit the spot perfectly. It's good quality inexpensive sushi. The tuna sashimi from this place is sometimes a little bit too frozen, this time it was perfect." haha the funny part is that at our "takeover celebration" today, there was free sushi, cake and beer. so even without a gas leak, dave coulda had his sushi.

from: Curry Point
price: $6
rating: &&&&.5/&&&&&
listening to: motown music. lots of it. even some non-motown motown. dig?

and brian had:

3 items: beef stew, cucumber, beef or pork (I am not too sure), fried squid and soup.
from: Combo Express (Taiwanese)
price: $5.08
rating: &&&&/&&&&& (I based my rating on brian's &&&&&/&&&&& for 'fullness' and &&&/&&&&& for 'delicious-ness'
comments: brian says, "For $5, it can save you from starving and fill up you stomach. The beef stew is good. As for the cucumber with beef or pork, I still can’t tell it’s beef or pork after I eat it. =) Squid: it’s not hot !!! In general, the food is not too bad." note: this brian is not bucketofbeer. it be another brian who works here.

do you wanna make tea at the BBC?

sushi combo A
from: Osaka Sushi
price: 5.95+tax (I think)
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: the clash
comments: sushi combo really hit the spot today. delicious. fresh. clean. all good. now click the pic to see if you can find the guy who was instant messageing me as this photo was taken. computers can be so fun... (until you read the end of the next review)

and eric had:

2 items: lamb cuyy & spicy tofu
from: YI Kou Xiang
price: $4+tax
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
comments: eric says, "saving the environment? one styrofoam container at a time? the lamb curry was very good." it funny, today I was sitting here, eating my lunch, thinking that I should do what Ali does. brings his own container for food. then eric walked in, sporting his new container. nice. now click the pick to see a couple of the errors that made me very angry at computers today. note: the inset one... yes, that is an uninstaller complaining that the installer is running. whaaa?!?!

Monday, February 20, 2006

I believe, them bones are me.

3 items: curry lamb, ginger beef, the fish
from: Yi Kou Xiang Delicious Foods
price: $5.08
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: alice in chains
comments: good lunch today. the curry lamb is not that great, but it's good. and the sauce did wonders for my rice. I think I don't pick enough "saucy" dishes from here, so the rice/noodles are rather dry at the bottom. now, click the pic to see the treats that our manager brought us today. what a manager. customized cookies and all!!!

and bucketofbeer had:

3 items: spicy pork, ginger beef, and broccoli on noodles with rootbeer
from: My Home Cuisine
price: $5.08
rating: &&&/&&&&&
comments: I saw bucket driving away with his lunch today, so I ran after and got this picture. he called in the review later. and here's what he had to say about it, "where's the pork?? there's more veg than pork in the 'spicy pork'!! and there's almost not enough broccoli. otherwise, it was not bad." Did anyone else notice the prices of our meals?? that is not a coincidence. I learned, from a reputable source, that Yi Kou Xiang, My Home Cuisine and Combo Express all got together and decided to raise their prices. I understand this, but it would have been great if they raised it so it came to exactly $5 after tax, instead of $5.08! oh well, click the pic to see a video I shot today of my eMac acting up. weird. I don't know what causes it, but it crashed 3 times this morn. crazy.

fish burger with fries
from: the pit
price: $5.20
rating: &&.5/&&&&&
comments: meg says, "it was two pieces of fried fish sticks with cheese and lettuce, and possibly mayo. battered fish sticks. the only thing I can really say is that I couldn't tell if there was actually any fish in the burger... but the garlic mayo was awesome. real burger next time, or maybe a veggie burger with bacon and cheese" the linked pic is one of the 5 pics I took the other night as I stumbled home from our gig. I didn't use my camera at all at the show.

Thursday Special A: General Tso's Chicken w/ Green Beans and 2 Spring Rolls
from: Hong Kong Chinese Foods
price: $5.82
rating: &&&/&&&&&
comments: craig says, "Meh, mediocre at best. The box was extra big, but other than the 2 spring rolls, there was the same amount of food in say, the beef and green bean. It's a dollar more than usual, so I don't know if I'll try it again. The General Tso's chicken was effective in both fulfilling my hunger and defending China from attack, as I've got nasty heartburn now, and wouldn't want to attack anybody. I can't positively attribute the Acid Reflux with General Tso's chicken dish, but I'm fairly confident."

butter chicken and eggplant curry
from: Curry Point
price: $6
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: led zeppelin. hey, if you're reading this, tell me your favourite zep song in the comments. go.
comments: I tried the eggplant that everyone else seems to have already tried. it was good. well cooked. not too soggy, nor too firm. good eggplantin'. now go click the link and watch the Porsche Fast Films. They aren't nearly as cool as the BMW Films (even though Porsches are way cooler than beemers). I also notices that the BMW films are no longer available for purchase or download. Glad I ordered the DVD way back when. As a matter of fact, I think that DVD was the first thing I ever bought online. And now I've think I've spent over $6000 online. yikes.

8ASpicyToGo
from: Hong Kong Chinese Food
price: $4.82
rating: 8884/88888 (that's three and a half eights)
comments: craig says, "Tasty as always, but I've had it several times in a row. I think I need to go back to my old stand-by 6ASpicyToGo. Also, the leg warmers don't stay up which is a problem if you like warm legs." now click the link to check out "google reader'. it's an rss reader that seems pretty cool. I'm not sure how it all works, but I've found lotsa great stuff on there, like those porsche movies and stuff.

don't I know you from the cinematographer's party?

chicken udon and tuna sashimi
from: Osaka Sushi
price: $12.25
rating: &&&&&/&&&&&
listening to: paul simon
comments: not sure why, but today I splurged on lunch. and it was worth it. tuna sashimi is probably the greatest food in my world. too bad it costs so much, cuz I could eat it for any and every meal. and in other news, jeff, jason and I got our lensbabies today. yay!! now I just need a charger for my camera. arg. if anyone knows of a nikon MH-15 or MH-16 for less than $100, please tell me. here's another lensbaby picture to enjoy. I tweaked the colours.

and greg had:

eggplant and lamb/spinach curries
from: Curry Point
price: six bucks
rating: &&&/&&&&&
comments: greg was disappointed with his lunch today. he said that the spinach/lamb curry really wasn't all that. and it definitely is not "the new butter chicken" as Ali has said. he was also disappointed to find out that 1veg+1meat curry is now $6. in other lunch news... Viv dropped her sandwich today. alex would think this is a laughing matter, but I do not. he'll probably go to the 12th level of chinese hell for wasting food. but he didn't waste the food. maybe there's another level for laughing at people who dropped their food? either way, half the sandwich looked fine to me. I think she could have eaten it. oh well. click to see the bits of dirt in the sandwich.

like driving power, big fat tires and everything

stir fry with pork and shrimp
from: My Home Cuisine
price: $4.80
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: Deep Purple
comments: stirfry today. it was tasty. and a lot of food. for a low low price. if I ate this a lot, it wouldn't get such high ratings. but as a change of pace? it's delicious! now click the pic and wait... then you will see how painful it can be to pose for Jason. Professional Photographer.

3 items; the fish, some tentacles and ginger boeuf
from: Yi Kou Xiang Delicious Foods
price: $4.82
rating: &&&.3/&&&&&
listening to: not telling.
comments: I tried something that looked like tentacles and celery. I think, what it actually was, was tentacles and celery. it was not bad. not great, because I don't think it was all that fresh. I went very late for lunch, so nothing was all that fresh. oh well. iPod sold separately.

and Jeff had:

veggie paninini and veggie soup
from: Perrugia Cafe (1/2 block east of our building)
price: $8.01
rating: &&&&.7/&&&&&

if you go down in the streets today baby you better... you better open your eyes!!!

sushi combo 1
from: Osaka Sushi
price: $6.37
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: led zeppelin
comments: I never had this combo before. it is good and tasty. the variety is terrific. I don't know if anyone watched that thing on the weekend where a bunch of oversized americans chased around a weirdly shaped ball made of dead pig, while wearing colourful matching outfits, but if you did, you probably didn't see the best part. the ads. cuz they don't show them to us canadians. click the pic to see what you missed.

and erin had:

minced beef and tofu on chow fun noodles instead of rice
price: $6.37
rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
comments: erin says, "it was good to have the regular cook back but the lineup for picking up food was waaaay too long and made me late for my meeting. some of the tofu is a bit sour today, but not as bad as it was last time. maybe i'll stay away from the tofu there from now on. the chow fun noodles were good though so i'll have the rest for dinner. yum!" and she did have it for dinner. so did I. thanks erin! and now, onto another subject. john wu. maybe you know him? when he's not filming pigeons in slow motion, he's sitting at his desk constantly sending out links. the links are sometimes really good. but I never have time to look at it right when he sends it. so I yelled at him about this. and told him to put these links on a blog so I could look at them all when I have the time. so he did! what a guy. click the pic to see this new blog.

Hainanese Chicken Rice
from: Cafe D'Lite
price: $7.50+tax
rating: &&&&.5/&&&&&
comments: erin says, "it was a bit cold by the time we got back to work, but the chicken was tender and the rice was chickeny good. i was sad that there was no soup to go and there weren't enough cucumbers. it would've been better if i could've eaten it all in one go rather than scarf a few bites, go to a long meeting, then eat cold clumpy rice. but that's not cafe delite's fault."

Thursday, February 02, 2006

well you wake up in the morning, you hear the work bell ring...

butter chicken and veggie korma
from: Curry Point
price: $6
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: CCR (right now anyway, but with only 2 CCR songs, it won't last long)
comments: the butter chicken was as good as always. I tried a new 2nd dish. Vegetable Korma. I think that's what it's called. It's good. kinda like a stir fry in a non-spicy curry sauce. refreshingly light tasting. not too heavy. which is good, because I got a samosa instead fo pop, and I'm quite full up. if you click the pic, you will see an article I saw in the Province today. only 1 guys from surrey, huh? he looks shady.

and Jacky had:

sandwich and chicken karrage
from: fujiya
price: $2.75 for sandwich, and the same for the chicken
rating: &&&&.5/&&&&&
comments: jacky says, "fresh sandwich, combination of ham sandwich, potato sandwich and Pork Steak Sandwich, + celery, baby tomato and carrot. 2 thumbs up." now click the linked pic to see some amazing photography that dave b showed me today. so cool. if you think it's gonna be NSFW pics, it's not. it's safe. the first little pic you see might make you think so, but scroll down. some great stuff.

Mumbled talk through pigeon park, and Hastings is wasting away

pork chops n penne
from: Some Kinda Pasta
price: $12
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: blind melon
comments: today I had lunch with an old friend, sarah. we tried to go to Burgoo, but after telling us they'd get us a table, they gave it away to someone else. bah. lame. so we went to Some Kinda Pasta which is always good. and it was. I just wish there was more pork and less bone on my pork chops. otherwise.. delicious! and in the linked pic, you can see what happens when I'm walking home at night with a few beers in me. ineveitably, my photos have this same subject. I wonder what it all means?

and sarah had:

clam and mussel linguine. or fettucine. I don't know the difference
from: Some Kinda Pasta
comments: I forgot to ask for sarah's review of her lunch. but I got the overall feeling that her rating would be &&&&+. she seemed to like it lots. and in the linked pic, you can see a poster for an upcoming gig I'm playing. it's organized by atomic cartoons. should be fun.
