he don't like his boring job now! and he knows what he's got to do...

general tso's chicken and garlic beef (special #1 of the day)
from: Hong Kong Chinese food
price: $5.50
rating: &&&&.5/&&&&&
listening to: The Clash (everyone has figured out by now that the blog entry title refers to this section of the blog, right?)
comments: good lunch. wow. really good. I've never met General Tso but his chicken was deelish. it was like popcorn shrimp, but with chicken inside. yum. and the 'garlic beef' is basically just beef in black bean sauce. very tasty. it really hit the spot. both today's links were provided by Temple. hope he's happy now.

and Jeff had:

3 items on noodle: egg tomato, brocoli beef, deep fried squid
from: Combo Express
price: $5
rating: &/&&&&
comments: Jeff says, "didn't even finish half of the noodle cuz they give me 4/5 of the box full of noodle. find no butterfly or caterpillar, but eating very cautiously. next time warn self, eat something better." I sure hope jeff learned his lesson, how many times will people go to combo express before they learn that it's the same food as the other places in the village, but worse tasting and with a danger of caterpillars.

I don't like this air, but that doesn't mean I'll stop breathing it

spinach, feta and egg crêpe and 1/2 a panini
from: Cafe Crêpe
price: about $13
rating: &&&&&/&&&&&
listening to: Built to Spill
comments: oh man, this was good food. I really shouldn't rate it so high, because it cost me so much money, but this time, I'm just rating the food. and it was supergood. that place will get better once they get a liquor license. now click the pic to see erin's crepe. or you can click here to see the sweet e-type that was parked behind our building.

and jason had:

Grilled Eggplant, Zucinni, Red Bell Pepper, and Feta Panini and a Nutella Crepe
From: Cafe Crepe
Cost: $13-ish
Rating: &&&&&/&&&&&
comments: jason says, "Regardless of the price and the wait time, this was damn good. Both the panini and the crepe exceeded my usual lunch expectations. Ask those at the table, I ate them both with fantastic speed. You would need a high-speed film camera to capture the action. I also almost wiped my face with GChan's napkin, but the disaster was avoided."

and greg had:

from: Yi Kou xiang
stuff: blah
more stuff: blah blah
comments: greg didn't give me a review. this happens a lot these days. it's because this blog isn't getting as much attention as it used to. what can I say, I'm losing interest. but I won't give up. oh no. not yet, anyway. 'specially considering that shahab got my eMac working again. yay shahab! again, click pic for lenbaby macro madness.

these are the days of miracle and wonder, this is a long distance call.

combo 3 - pork n salad roll
from: A-1 Vietnamese (& Korean)
price: I forget. about $6.
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: Paul Simon; Graceland.
comments: this pork is so good. I just wish there was more of it. the salad roll was adequate, but nowhere near as good as the pork. oh man, just thinking about that pork again makes me all giddy. thanks to jason for the Cheat Commando action figures as today's props.

and jenna had:

2 items
from: Yi Kou Xiang
price: $4.50
rating: &&.5/&&&&&
comments: jenna says, "it was a little too greasy for me.. the fried rice was a little too dry too. Not so much fun eating it." personally, I will be avoiding Yi Kou Xiang for a while. this is in protest of the removal of the customer appreciation bonus cards. boo. now click the pic. I don't know why, just do it.

and all you see is where else you could be

1/2 a parisienne hotdog and 1/2 a tomoto, provologne & boccini panini
from: CAFE CREPE!
price: $12.something between craig and I
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: death cab for cutie "Plans"
comments: cafe crepe is open and already full of customers. thanks for the headsup, hiroko. so we went there. and the panini was delicious. the hotdog was so-so. I think I let it cool down way too much. and we had to wait 34 minutes for jason's crepe. that's something you should all be forewarned about... if there's already people waiting... it will take a long time to get crepes... best to order a panini when in a hurry. also, the dining areas can only be used if you order eat-in. if you order take-out, you're not allowed to sit at the tables. the windows stools are ok to sit at, and probably the patio... but today it was raining. click the pic to see the photo I call, "my cracker is toooo big"

and ryan had:

some kinda baguette
from: cafe crepe
comments: I didn't get a review from ryan and now he's gone. click the pic to see a fancy new bus I saw while sitting in the crepery. and come to my show tonight. bye.

from: osaka sushi
price: $7.22?
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to: soundgarden
comments: sushi was good. I likes it. now click the pic to see the strange happenings outside my window. and if you've read this far, you get a special bonus movie.

and greg had:

3 items
from: Yi Kou Xiang (northern foods)
price: $5
comments: I didn't get a review from greg. but I did get a picture of his lunch in his glasses. so really, which would you prefer? now click the pic to see jason reflecting from the strangely labeled door that was outside of the hospital.

no song lyrics today

vietnamese sandwiches
from: empress bakery (fraser and kingsway)
price: $7.22 (for 3)
rating: &&&&.5/&&&&&
comments: I love these sandwiches. that is all. now click the pic to see a stupid moovie I made of me losing $2. it's stupid cuz once I compressed it, you can't tell if I win or lose (or draw). bah.

and the sun had:

its photo taken
by: my cool new lens in a cap
aperture: f64
rating: behind clouds
comments: this lens is cool. why? cuz it's a body cap for the camera. why else? because it goes to f64. what does f64 do for you? a)lets you take pictures of the sun and b) gives you endless depth of field. notice how craig's shoe is in focus, and so is the wall behind him. show me another lens that can do that for under $30! (if you think it's blurry that's because a) craig has magic hands b) it's a 10 second exposure and/or c) you're crazy.

take it. to the limit. one more time.

chicken&lamb donair
from: Donair Town
price: $5
rating: &&&.4/&&&&&
listening to: jason sings the eagles
comments: I really need a better mac at work. this blog is suffering. crash crash crash goes the emac. I'll save this post and finish it when I get home. so, the donair is alright. I don't think it's as good as craig says. but it's alright. it filled me up enough, I think, and the lady didn't charge me any tax, really. I paid $5 and it's price was $4.99. now click on either pic to see another poster for my band's next show THIS THURSDAY AT THE MARINE CLUB!

and jeff had:

combo #4; fried chicken, potato noodle, salad, rice
from: A-1 Vietnamese/Korean
price: $5.80
rating: &&&&.4/&&&&&
comments: jeff said, "there is no real chinese food at the village anymore, all of them sux and expensive ($5, 3 items, but no soup)! Curry is too strong for sensitive throat, Japanese is a little bit cold. chicken is always good for recovery from cold. the potato noodle is good but a little bit too much. they can sub the noodle with more fried chicken for sure :P"

lunch:1 greg:0

burger, fries, onion rings and shake
from: Red Robin - burnaby style
price: too much
rating: &&.5/&&&&&
comments: oh man. way too much food. I got greedy and ordered a shake. it nearly killed me. well, with that and a tower of onion rings and a burger and fries. what you see is how much of the burger and fries I did not eat. ridiculous gluttony. well, at least the rings were shared. the shake was yummy, though. the burger was merely average. and the fries were nicely tender, but I only ate a couple... so sad.

and mike had:

mike had a lot of food, too. he was pained as well. but he ate much more than me. good work, mike. now, if you click on the pics, the first one is of the new lens I bought at the camera swap meet. yay. but cooler than that, is the lens-in-a-cap that took that picture. mike's lunch here (it's a close up of chocolate sprinkles on a whip cream topped shake) was also taken with one of these crazy lenses made by Loreo. and the hidden pic is of the menu. very close.

here she come now sayin' mona mona!

appetizer sashimimi and some rolls
from: Øne More Sushi
price: dunno.
rating: &&&&.8/&&&&&
comments: yet another goodbye lunch for a coworker. this time it was mona. she works the front desk. so we all ate sushi to say goodbye. and it was delicious. well, it wasn't the best sushi ever, but it was good sushi and that's just what I wanted. and the tuna sashimi was perfect. melt in your mouth perfection. now click the pic to see how someone at the village saved their car from being towed away (or so I figure - cuz the truck later left without the car).

and mona had:

"I had a Salmon and Tuna Sashimi Combination.
Food Rating: 2.5/ 5
Company Rating: 5/5
Comments: The salmon was fresh enough, but the tuna may have been questionable. There is a certain texture to fresh sushi grade fish that was not evident. The test is the way the meat separates. It should almost be like cooked fish. You know, the way it flakes away between your chopsticks. It wasn’t evident.
I think they should have packed us in like sardines in a room and we could have played musical chairs and tried everybody’s dishes.
I like sitting beside girls who don’t clean their plates. I’m like a garburator, an endless pit for food.
Diraj has a funny way of chopping up his wasabi. And he calls Kikkomman Soya Sauce, Ketchup because he likes it so much. He says that in Singapore, they call it ‘ketcup’, but we think it was just a cover up.
I think Jason was drinking absinthe under the table. He looked kinda pale and woozy.
Erin and I ate the same thing but we ordered it differently. Her fish came in a big bowl full of rice. I ordered my rice separately. Shahab treated me to a bowl of rice.
I think everybody at the table knew how to use chopsticks.
Gotta go. M"
(review entirely written by mona. bye mona. and happy new year. ps: I'm going to assume we had different tuna. man, mine was good!)

... grrrrrrrrrrrrr ...

rare pho to go
from: A-1 Vietnamese and Korean foods
price: $4.0.2+tax
rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
listening to: nothing! to try and make my emac not crash I have it in safe mode. but there's no bloody audio in safe mode. booooo.
comments: decent pho. tastes just like it always does from there. nothing special, but nothing bad about it either. now click the pic to see another poster from another show my band is playing next week. come on and rock out with us.

and cindy had:

egg fried rice with tofu, veggie, and spam
from: friend cooked for me
price: may cost 1.5 bucks
rating: $$$.5/&&&&&
comment: cindy is one of our co-ops. and here's what she said about her lunch, "looks better than it tastes; afterall, it's leftover food from last last dinner" also, when I asked where the food was from, she got a little carried away in the detail, "where from...? i think the egg was from a hen, rice from field, tofu from factory and veggie from farm. and the box was from rubbermaid" ok, now click the pic to see something truly exciting. oh yeah.. a new place will be open soon for lunches!!

Monday, April 03, 2006

hold on brother, before you go any further, who's eyes do you have on?

3 items: the fish, pork n onion, spicy beef
from: Yi Kou Xiang
rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
listening to: hothouse flowers
comments: decent food today. the spicy beef had snowpeas in it. yum. the onion and pork just tasted kinda burnt. I'm not the biggest fan of carmelized type onions. if anyone wants to see last friday's lunch, you just have to wait. maybe tomorrow? now click the pic to see who was demonstrating how to stop and smell the flowers at lunch today.

and jason had:

Veggie Teriyaki Combo
From: Osaka Sushi
Rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
Comments: jason says, "Decent veggie teriyaki and tempura. I wish I could sub out that avocado roll for something else, though. Way too much avocado for me in one shot. Also, not big on the salad." I guess this is why he eats the curry 10 times out of 9. now click the link to see a movie advertising website that is almost 10 years old. amazing, that it's still there no?
