the well beef burger
from: the well (main st. near papa's pizza)
price: $12ish
rating: &&&/&&&&&
listening to: tom petty
comments: I tried a newish place for lunch today. the well. it's next to yek o yek on main street. it was not bad. but for the prices, it shoulda been better. the meat in this burger was delicious. but the cold fries and untoasted bun made it not so delicious. click the pic to see dave and jenna rollerblading. its a big gif, but well worth the load time, methinks.

and erin had:

'the big bird' paninini
comments: erin said her lunch was worth about &&&.75/&&&&&. it was not salted enough, and pretty cold. overall, this place looks like it will be good when they work out the kinks. now, remember that wind turbine they are building on grouse mountain? well, it's built. not sure when it will be operational, it's too cloudy to see it today. but you can click erin's lunch to see a gif that shows it being assembled. the pics for the gif were shot over 5 days or so, and from the office, my house and chinatown. all basically the same view.

blue cheese burger
from: Emelle's
price: I forget. uh.. $11 with pop?
rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
listening to: steve miller
comments: went to Emelle's for lunch. I'm not too impressed with their burgers. very pre-fab kinda brick of a patty. quite tasty, but I guess I've been ruined by splitz burgers. click to see Louise a-wiggling. or, if you prefer, you can see her laughing at one of my great jokes.

and bill had:

a veggie burger, with chris's sprouts, pickles and onions
comments: of course, meeting bill for lunch meant seeing Teh Cheat. although, the cheat was not impressed. click to see how weird my Ricoh's HDR stuff gets when you point it at the sun.

"greek" omelette and a coffee/banana shake
from: the sunny spot cafe (Main @ 11th)
price: $7.25 + $3.25
rating: &&&/&&&&&
listening to: the young rascals (I bet they're not young anymore!)
comments: decent lunch today. I think nice cafe is a bit better, but the value at the sunny spot is pretty good. click to see the sun trying to go down. it succeeded in the end. the very last day of summer. it is now fall. adapt.

and teo had:

pancakes; 1 blueberry, 1 banana
comments: teo had his pancakes customized to meet his needs. I think his needs were met. click to see the tiny fancy coffee that he had after lunch. he was berated by the hipster barista to get this drink, so I hope he enjoyed it.

and travis had:

the 'potato lovers' breakfast

and I will never again have:

A&W Float in a bottle
rating: 0.00001/&&&&&
comments: oh man. I have never tasted anything quite like this. you know how jelly bellys taste like the flavour they are supposed to be? but it's just a tiny taste, right? but you can sense that there's some chemist mixing up these flavours, and if you had them in larger quantities they would probably start tasting pretty bad. and chemical-like. that's what this drink is like. in the first part of the flavour, you think 'aaah yes, I can taste a rootbeer float!' but that lasts for about 1 second, then it just tastes like horrible sickly sweet chemicals that stay in your mouth until you find something better to drink. yikes. hmm... looking at the bottle, this appears to be an american beverage. that makes sense. my recommendation... only buy this beverage when you want to torture someone. (oh yeah, the linked pic is tommy's phone dongle. it's an awesome bit of engrish, and I think quite fitting for linking from this horrible beverage).

seafood pancake
from: H-Mart (seymour and robson)
price: $10
rating: &&&&&/&&&&&
listening to: hothouse flowers
comments: a very special day today. today was the last day of the charger's insurance for the year. it now sleeps. in honour of this day, I took dave, tommy and phil s. downtown to meet andy and neil for lunch. and what a lunch it was. H-Mart is the bizzomb. click to see my sliding across the hood of the charger.

and dave, tommy and phil had:

comments: I thought 5 guest lunches was just too much work. if you really want to know what these guys ate, I can tell you. but not now. now you need to click to see phil's awesome mustache. yeah. I said mustache. AND I said awesome. if you want more charger pictures, you can check out phil's flickr.

and andy had:

tonkatsu
comments: andy was the only one to order from the japanese kitchen in HMart. it looked good, too. click to see andy trying to steal the charger.

and neil had:

beef bul-go-gi
comments: the bulgogi was really the only thing simple and normal enough to appeal to neil's extreme taste in foods. now, time for a story. in the afternoon, at work, I took another 3 coworkers for a quick ride around the block. we ripped it up. and when we got back, michal pointed out that there was a grasshopper on the 76 ball (a ball, which killerX57 rightfully decorated the charger with a couple weeks before). so, of course, I took photos of said grasshopper. and after work, I drove home. not slowly, mind you. not slowly at all. and when I got home I looked at the 76 ball to find that the grasshopper was still there!! wow! coolest grasshopper ever. and he's got great taste in cars. now click neil's lunch to see him.

vietnamese subs
from: Bale
price: $2.75 each
rating: &&&&&/&&&&&
listening to: leonard cohen
comments: man, I haven't had these subs in a while. so that made them taste better than ever. oh, and as ritchie pointed out, it seems they use a new, more flavourful, ham. it's gooood. the linked pic is the garbage left behind by a homeless dude that I saw on my way home last night. it's interesting to note that even people with no homes won't even use Windows. high five!

and sumant had:

some corn with the sub I brought him
comments: click sumant's lunch to see the path that leads to Bale. this path always smells like pee. today. I think I followed a prostitute up the path. it's possible that it was just a really sluttily dressed girl, though. no photo. sorry.

omelette
from: the wallflower (main n broadway)
price: $8?
rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
listening to: morcheeba
comments: we et at the wallflower today. it was ok. there was some disappointment for me. they got our order slightly wrong, and the potatoes were not very good. otherwise, it was ok. the omelette was pretty tasty, even if it wasn't what we ordered. and we had to clear out of work right on time today, cuz someone was doing x-rays of our building and they didn't want us radiated. click to see the side of their truck.

and dana had:

a breakfast sandwich
comments: click on dana's lunch to see some back alley graffiti art stickers. I really like these kinds of stickers that people graffitize with, but at the same time, it makes me think the vandals are either getting too lazy, or too hipstery.
