Tomorrow is June.

veggies n pork on rice
from: My Home Cuisine
price: $3.00
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to while eating: mostly Rheostatics, although now DeathCabforCutie is playing.
comments: I brought some leftover pizza to work today. I was gonna eat it for breakfast, but it turned out to be cinnybunday. and those buns are very filling. so I looked for a small lunch from the village to complement my pizza. mission accomplished. this dish was deelish. and linky link shows the most beautiful thing in the world (see American Beauty)... tied down.

and Greg C. had:

butter chicken and yoghur curries. with samosa instead of pop
from: Curry Point
price: $5.87
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
comments: greg liked his curry. and Wuuuuu has nothing to do with Greg eating his lunch. however, he is Prince Butter Chicken. Alll hail the Prince!

that space cadet glow

Sushi Special A
from: Osaka Sushi
price: $5.95 + tax
rating: &&&.8/&&&&&
Listening to while eating: Modest Mouse "The Moon and Antarctica"
comments: as the weather gets warmer, my desire of hot food gets smaller. I need more cold food selections. maybe I'll just start having slurpees for lunch. mmm... slurpees... the sushi today was slightly below it's usual. the avacado was starting to get brown. and the crazy picture here has some of Carmen's fancy oragami creations. It's her birthday. happy birthday, Carmen!

and Craig had:

Super-sized quarter pounder meal with coke.
from: MacDonald's
price: $6.30
rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
comments: Craig says, "It was cholesterrific!"

if I had a cell phone, I think my ring would be Brak going, "Hey buddy!"

pork n'noodle soup
from: My Home Cuisine
price: $4.75
rating: &&&/&&&&&
Listening to while eating: the Rheostatics. but now I'm done eating, and I'm listening to Cortez the Killer by Neil Young.
Comments: I think I waited too long to eat my soup. by the time I got to it, there was no broth. the noodles had soaked it all up. oh well. this is the way sometimes. it's fully summer out there today. hot hot hot. I will not have a guest lunch today.

This is what my lunches must see. with one minor difference... most of my lunches don't have built in flash. ok, so there's two minor differences, this isn't actually my camera. this is steven steven's new camera. he got it cheap off ebay. the screen on the back is twice as big as mine. crazy. and he can kick his hand when it's straight up in the air. I gotta work on my timing with the camera.

it's gonna be a bright, sunshiny day...

chicken terriyaki and a vietnamses sub
from: Osaka Sushi, and Empress Bakery
price: $5.30 & $2.50
rating: &&&&&/&&&&&
listening to while eating: Bob Marley. is there other music?
comments: mad props to r. for bringing vietnamese subs here. the sub was deeelicious. even after sitting for 3 hours on my desk. and the chicken terriyaki really hit the spot. Erwin was right. it is good. very good. other than that, all I can say about my lunch is that there are far too many crap drivers in this city. and way too many roads being torn up.

Bucket of Beer had:

Chicken Souvlaki Pita
from: Bebe Fine Persian and Mediterranean Cuisine
price: $4-ish
rating: &&.5/&&&&&&
comments: BucketofBeer was not very satisfied with his lunch. he said, and I quote, "it wasn't great. a bit dry". then he said he didn't even have any good quotes to give about it. I think Bucket should have had a bucket of beer for lunch. he'd like that. in other news, I noticed that a Vera's Burger Shack is opening where Amigo's was. I hear they make a good burger.

ask beleznay how his pita was today

butter chicken and spinach
from: Curry Point
price: $5.87
rating: &&&/&&&&&
listening to while eating: bob marley still.
comments: r. made me eat in the park. I didn't like it. I like being outside, but something about hot food in the hot sun just does not appeal to me. maybe if we went to subway, then the beach, I'd be more into it. plus, the food is really hot when I don't bring it back to my desk. it's weird. I'm not used to that. so, the drawing in the hidden link was the combined effort of jason and I using messenger. pretty awesome pic, I think.

viv's hands
from: Viv's arms
price: $12,000
rating: &&&&&/&&&&&
comments: Vivian ate her hands for lunch. this is weird because I don't know how she'll type anymore. prostheticals, I guess.

like monkey, like son.

a dreadlock congo bongo-i!
sushi special B - salmon roll, california roll and some prawn tempura roll with lettuce?? in it.
from: Osaka Sushi
price: $7.44
rating: &&&.7/&&&&&
listening to while eating: Bob Marley. this might go on for a while...
comments: usually, I have the Sushi Special A. today, I spent an extra dollar and got the "B". it is alright. pretty tasty, but in the future, I'd stick to the A. it's a better value, and just as tasty. it's weird having lettuce in a roll. it doesn't make it bad, it just feels like filler. but it makes it harder to pick up the roll.

and erin had:

you lively up yourself!

cherries and little bananas.
from: Granville Island Market (at the Village, NOT granville island)
price: ~$7.
rating: &&&/&&&&&
comments: the cherries weren't quite as sweet as they could be, but they were pretty good. and one of the little bananas was really good. but when she bit into the other one, it was brown in the middle. where the seeds reside. jason told her to try it anyway. she did. then made a face. then spat it into the garbage. true story.

I'm gonna be iron, like a lion, in zion. skiddlaboppaboo.

large souvlakies - with salad, rice and tzaziki
from: Bebe Fine Persian and Meditteranean Cuisine
price: $7.05
rating: &&&.8/&&&&&
listening to while eating: Bob Marley. he's the best.
comment: this is good food. $7 is a lot o money for lunch, but I'm digging it. I think I let it get too cold. it would be better fresher. today's photos are a little different. they be long exposures. 5 seconds or so. I find you can get way better detail this way. and the linked photo was my attempt to capture lightning on my camera last night. unfortunately, my camera limits the exposures to 15 seconds. I missed the good lightning bolts anyway. by the time I got home, the storm was mostly gone. I tried anyway, but to no avail.

and Erin had:

3 items - beans, eggplant, pork
from: Yi Kou Xiang
price: $4.82
rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
comments: erin says, "beans - meh. eggplant - sauce is good. pork something - meat wasn’t very good quality, but the sauce is good" now, go click the pic. so good.

Thursday, May 19, 2005

What about the voice of Geddy Lee? How did it get so high?

Wonton in Chilli
from: My Home Cuisine
price: $4.50
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
listening to while eating: Pavement. Brighten the Corners.
comments: these wontons are very tasty. They remind me much of Sha Lin's pan-fried dumplings. I'm not sure if it's the taste of the wonton that reminds me of it, or the fact that my wontons are swimming in oil/vinegar/chilli sauce. I don't think I'm going to drink the soup part. but yummy wontons, nonethless. but for $4.50, the stirfry is the way to go.

and Greg C had:

3 items - spicy tofu, tripe, pork n sauce
from: Yi Kou Xi
price: $4.82 or something.
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
comments: Greg said: "I don't usually get tripe from fast foodish places, but the girl forced me. turns out it is quite tasty. The Tripe is Right."
Greg also had some sm0k3d chick3n from Hon's Won Ton. this dish would be &&&&& if it was not from yesterday. when fresh, it is the stuff chicken gods are made of. the chicken is smoked in chinese tea leaves. so good.

Happy McHappy Day!!!

sincerely, L. Cohen
Minced beef and Tofu on rice
from: Hong Kong Chinese
price: $5.30
rating: &&&&.8/&&&&&
listening to while eating: Leonard Cohen. I bin listeningto him all day. and I probably will for the rest of the day. unless I can find some Bob Marley.
comment: this is sooo good. no wonder Erin always orders it. it's sweet. it's spicy. it's perfect. it makes me want to drive my car like this.

and wuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu had:

rom: HOME
price: zero, cero, nada!!
rating: of course &&&&&/&&&&&
comment: Sticky rice made by Mei's parents. It's Very tasty and healthy because it's home made and nothing beats that!
I love to enjoy my lunch at my quiet corner with window view. However, the weather is cloudy and kind of windy today.

get out and vote!!! (work less party! go go go!)

Pastrami Pita
from: Quizno's
price: 10 bucks!!
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
comment: so good. the Quizno's is the bizznos! not sure what that means. but I do wish the subs were a little bit cheaper there. they are so delicious, though. I went to Quizno's today because I had many off-campus errands to run. I hope everyone at the village was ok without me. one of my errands was voting. and I did it. I voted. but I already forget who I voted for. It was a toss up between the green party and the work less party. I figure I support the work less party enough already. heh heh.

and the usual Anonymous had...

Pastrami Pita
from: The Delly
price: $3.75 (student friendly -luring- price)
rating: &&.5/&&&&&

comment: better than the plain veggie wrap; I prefer warm food to cold one just Delly is there and handy, quick and looked healthy. But I had to wait for Sim who was getting sushi from a long queue.
no fancy no culinary charm

Stirfry City, here we come.

stir fry
from: My Home Cuisine
price: $4.50
rating: &&&.8/&&&&&
comments: the stir fry. the stir fry is a crazy good deal. although, today I was mildly disappointed. the usual girl didn't serve me, and this new one was a little stingy with the meat. it's still very good, just not as meaty. and I like my stir fries meaty. who doesn't? jason. that's who. today I chose pork and prawns. good choice, but still not enough meat.

Misha's lunch:

crazy pokemisha!

"Ground Been Kabob"
from: Bebe Mediterranean
price: $5.98
rating: &&&&.5/&&&&&
comments: Misha says, "4.5 out of 5 only because I asked for way too much rice (I think I ate over a pound of rice right there…)" I also think that he had ground beef kebabs. but rather than asking him, I'll just quote him verbatim. ground been it is! there's nothin better than makin fun of typos, is there?

Friday, May 13, 2005

jenna ate food too. Jason sent me these pics form his phone. it was a goodbye party for Roberto. Roberto's gone now. I'm going to move into his office when nobody's looking. keep on truckin, Roberto!!!

jason ate pasta. i'm too lazy to do a real entry. anyway.. I just had curry anyway. and (sorry ritchie) I ate it in the park. I think this is Jason's turtleweenies.

Crouching Steven, Hidden Jason

spicy pork with squids + monopoly scratch and win
from: A-1 Vietnamese (spicy korean pork and beef place)
price: $5.60+tax (+$3 for monopoly)
rating: &&&.&/&&&&&
comment: tasty spicy pork. and the squids just make it better. I don't know what else to say. they no longer hand out the number cards that say 'seek jehova and live'. I wonder why? maybe he only uses those when it's busy? it wasn't too busy today. I hope I win my Monopoly scratch and win. I'll find out later. Erin got the same food as me today. she said she'd rate it &&&&. and since she's korean, her rating is more powerful than mine on this dish.

Jason's lunch:

curry with tetris
from: Curry Point
price: $5.87 + $5 for Tetris scratch and win
rating: &&&/&&&&&
comment: it was cold. so it only gets a 3. why was it cold, you ask? because Jason just HAD to scratch his tetris card before eating. I told him to eat. I was all like, " dude. eat. your food will get cold and it'll totally only be a &&&." did he listen? no. did he win his $5 back on the card? yes. actually he won $10. and he got a high score on the BC Lottery Tetris game... over 68,000!!

click the pics!

3 rolls: New York Roll, UBC Roll, and negitoro roll.
from: Osaka Sushi
price: $10.65
rating: &&&&.2/&&&&&
comment: I told the girl at the sushi place that I didn't know what I wanted, and she said I should try something different. I asked what and she suggested some $5 rolls. eek. expensive, but after some discussion with her and the chef, I decided on a NY Roll and UBC Roll (pictured). I also got a negitoro roll to balance it all out. the NY Roll is so good. it's like cream cheese and lox on a bagel, but the bagel is rice.

risotto
from: erin's house
price: who knows. erin made it.
rating: &&&.5/&&&&&
comment: erin says: "errrrrm. uuum... I didn't put in the pistachios this time. it tastes better with them. uhhh... tastes better with them? and it's better not reheated.. hhhhey! oh really? *sniff* *sniff* the hand that bites? one point oh? hey what are you doing???"
I guess I should have stopped quoting her sooner.

another perfect lunch. yum.

3 items. delicious items. boy, do I ever love items.
3 items - from left to right.. spicy tofu, peppered beef peppers n onions, pork in sauce from heaven
from: Yi Kou Xiang Foods
rating: &&&&&/&&&&&
listening to while eating: Frank Black "I wanna live in los angeles.
comments: what to say. this meal was perfect. it was exactly what I felt like. and to think that I was about to get a stirfry, but the girl said that the cook wasn't able to do it for a while. so I said I'd get it another day. and now I got this. fate has a funny way of telling me what to eat. but what's really cool was the laser that I saw from broadway and cambie last night. upon investigating the source, we ended up at science world where an Environment Canada truck sat with a laser shooting off the roof. Cool stuff. Here's a pic I took. If you look closely, you can see the pixie dust in the laser beam. We're living in the future, people!!!!

empty container that once held penne with mixed veggie in tomato sauce
from: viv's house
price: who knows? home cookin is like that.
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
comments: wiwian says:

wiwian says:

Monday, May 09, 2005

we're unhello now.

cod belly with tomato
from: Hong Kong Chinese
price: $5.50 + tax
rating: &&&.6/&&&&&
listening to while eating: Built to Spill - 'Hazy'
comments: I felt like trying something slightly different than my usuals. so deep fried cod belly it is. it's not bad. lotsa veggies, broccolli, tomato, mushrooms, bok choi. all in a sweet-sorta sauce. not bad not bad. still no beef-n-egg-on-rice-spicy-to-go, though.

eric's lunch:

frozen terriyaki rice bowl thingy
from: some store
price: $2-ish
rating: &&/&&&&&
comment: see? it's a microwave. and then the food inside was way too steamy to take a picture of. so you get what we had here last week. which is the way he wants it... well... he gets it.

Iced Caramel Mac-daddio!
bonus posting!

alone in the park - (not starring christian slater)

sushi special a
from: Osaka Sushi
price: $6.37
rating: &&&&\&&&&&
listening to while eating: Death Cab for Cutie - tiny vessels
comments: I like sushi. this sushi tastes pretty good. not like the best ever, but not bad, either. so... good. it's friday, though. I probably should have had beer. but r. was all like "I can't go to jericho, cuz it'd take too long" then he's all like, "let's eat the park". for this, we made him eat in the park. alone. see photos.

stir fry
from: My Home Cuisine
price: $4.50
rating: &&&&.x\&&&&&
listening to while eating: probably the Sadies. he tried to get me to listen to it, but I'm not in a coutry music mood right now.
comment: r. likes to eat in the park. I also saw g. walking towards the park. she offered me an angry cat. I declined. I also feel a little ripped off that she gets to be g. why can't I be g.? I mean, my name starts with a hard G sound, whereas hers starts with a soft g sound. which could really just be a j. I think she should be 'soft g' in case I want to take g. or, I guess I could take G. and let her have g. in any case, I'm not letting r. review his food. he can do it in the comments.

find the angry cat!

stir fry
from: My Home Cuisine
price: $4.50 !!! (after tax!)
rating: &&&&&\&&&&&
listening to while eating: Ween.
comment: that's right &&&&&/&&&&&. this was a great lunch. and huuuuuuuuuge. for $4.50, you can't go wrong. and you get to choose 2 meats (Eric only got one - hehe), and a bunch of veggies, and the sauce. It's like going to the Great Wall Mongolian BBQ on Broadway, but you don't have to touch the food. and you get a lot more food for less money. I am very full now. dangerously full.

This is a collection of lunches from people hanging out at the park. on a skateboard. Erin, Ritchie, Ryan, and Julian. That's who's lunches these are. I'm not about to ask them all what they got, how much it was and how good it was, so I'll just leave that to them. Comment, people!!!

Princess Buttercup watches over my lunch
tempura udon
from: Osaka Sushi
price: $5.25 +tax
rating: &&&&\&&&&&
listening to while eating: Frank Blank - Cult of Ray
comment: it's good. the tempura was a little soggy because it was closed up on the walk back, but it was ok after leaving it open for a bit. and the udon is always delicious. there's really not much to say about it. Princess Buttercup enjoyed it, too.

Jenna's lunch:

from: Curry Point
price: $5.87
comment: it's the same as always. yummy. but later I will feel funny. on the ay back from the village, I had my bingo lottery ticket in my back pocketses. but when I got to work it was gone. scary. that's my $20000!! so I walked back towards the village. I found the ticket by the hospital. phew. now it's time for scratchy scratchy.

Sim's lunch:

from: IT lab
price: ?
comment: finally. proof. see? Sim is a robot. I caught him eating these various computer parts. I knew it. I bet all the co-ops are robots. that would explain so much.

pho (vietnamese beef noodle soup)
from: A-1 Vietnamese (Korean Spicy pork place)
price: uh... I forget. but it was just under $5
rating: &&&.9/&&&&&
listening to while eating: Bjork.
comment: I like pho. this pho is not the best. but it's tasty to me. I used to put lotsa spicy in it, but now I just enjoy the oxtail broth. I think I said all that before, though. this blog's getting all repeatey. but it's monday. and you know what that means...

Caeser king's lunch (yes, AGAIN!):

chicken caesar wrap
from: Bread Garden
price: $5.49 + tax
rating: &&&&/&&&&&
comments: Mike likes it! he says it's even better than Bread Garden's normal caesar because you get chicken in it. and Mike must like it when chicken's die for his hunger. I know I do. know what's even better than chicken, though? pork.
